I have bought the product, sw/hw, and am happy despite being pre-release. The way I see it the release date feature set that is promised makes it worthwhile having and learning in the meanwhile. I can also provide feedback for some "wish list" features that may end their way into the production unit. Ask me in December if I am still happy

@Dimitry & Mediaman does the current software work without the hardware as a standalone tool.

@Dimitry Will there be the atola software as a standalone sollution, that is a lot less than $7000.

the software will work on any disk connected to the local machine but the disksense box must be there as it has the hardkey for the software to work. For example, you could image any disk connected to the host PC, not just the one connected via disksense, but in this example disksense will not power cycle the disk during imaging (as it is direct to PC).

To be honest, the solution is 95% SW, the disksense unit only provides:
- current scope
- power cycle discs
- modem for some drives
- usb interface
- write blocking

You will need to wait for Dimitry to answer more...

Looks as if a software only version could be made for release. Though for retail it may need a very simple box for hdd power switching on-off. Better if this were to be optional to buy for those that need a to buy sollution. As most us of could simply make a switch box, if not allready done so.

Dimitry any idea if atola software only version will be available to buy. For standalone use, and the expected price if known.

DiskSense itself is not a very expensive unit. Even if we sell the product without it, the price won't be much lower. Here is the full list of DiskSense features: http://atola.com/products/insight/disksense

At this time I am not sure if there will be a "software-only" version. It just does not make much sense to me. However, we do plan to give away a light version of Atola Insight for free .

Once we get the first release out, we will think about buying options and free version. At this time it is too early...
