Should take a look at this.

I thought Ontrack claimed they could recover data from "melted disk drive" salvaged from space shuttle crash in their latest news?

Lovely propaganda. If I had 5 or 6 obscure drives, I drop 3 down the stairs, take one, and then send the other two to competitors. I have guaranteed parts in donors, and stop the clock the moment the work is done. The competition decides to call back at a reasonable hour, like the next day. They have to track down parts. Ditto for the USB drive. DR is much easier and quicker when you know what's going to fail, have parts on hand, and have a chance to be prepared. The whole thing is ridiculous, proving only that test results are easily faked.

not only tha above, but each drive will be different ..

This story reminds me of a Video on C0nv@r website where they shoot a monitor with a shotgun, then recover the data from the hard disk - amazing

Not quite agree to all...
If this is done by a impartial third party. It appears that this is the news media editor who did this.

What kinds of drive model will make such a difference to withstand the impact...
Ontrack should know the best drive to use, shouldn't they ?

It appears to be propaganda for sure. I admit it is a good one.

Ontrack talk crap they say that they can recover hard drive that have been run over by a car
and allso a hard drive that has had a total head crash where all the silver has been removed.

hard drives that have been in fires

but wait i thought hard drive would melt in that case
and most hard drive platters are glass these days

nothing more then a marketing scam

but for sure this company gets around 500,000 hard drives a year
from around the world

how about a piece of that pie ;)
