Hi,

First the info about the drive
Model: Maxtor DiamondMax Plus9
Code: YAR41KW0
sn:Y2CY6RJC
tla: 6Y080L042B411
Big chip on PCB: 040111300

I noticed it made a noise that it had a hard time getting to spin. So I bought a new drive and started copying my files. Windows didn't see the new drive so I took the old one out. Then I was stupid enough to re-connect the drive while the computer was on. Yea, I know. Don't laugh at me.

Now it don't do anything anymore. So, most likely I fried the PCB.

I went looking on eBay and found an exact matching PCB. Same model nr, firmware etc... Only difference is that there is a little extra chip on the board that my drive doesn't have.

See image:

I profesionally highlighted the chip I'm talking about.

How big is the chance that this will work?

Hello

You need to find matching pcb with the same 5 letter code, what you have cut out from the photo.
If you have no access to this version, you can safely try to find another.
You need to match these letters exactly: xxxYx.
Your drive family code is the Y, this is important.
Additionally, use Diamondmax Plus 9 pcb-s only!
Don't need to care about the external little 8 pin ee, what you have marked...

You have only 3 choice:

1. will work.
2. will knock.
3. damaged pcb will burn your preamp (to avoid this, look closely the Q500 part, if it is burned, or damaged, don't use this board! Of course, better if you can measure it....)
4a. your preamp already dead, the drive will knock
4b. your preamp already dead, and will burn the Q500 too on the new pcb.

If you unsure about this, try to find a pro close to you.

Regards,
Janos

1 - rom copy in SA
2 - read POKER chip for checksum.

I was talking about firmware not remove a PCB, for this you only need a torx bit.

Is there a guide or how-to somewhere on the internet? I don't want to ruin the new one as well.

What is that and where do i find that?

I installed the new PCB anyway, and now it starts to spin. But it makes a weird sound. I'm uploading a video to YouTube at the moment. I'll post it in a minute or two
