Hi,

I just suffered a motherboard failure and have 2 HDD set in a RAID 0 configuration.

My plan is to buy another RAID 0 capable motherboard and try to guess the stripe size settings etc, but I was wondering if this could result in possible data loss i.e. by guessing the wrong settings?

Or whether there is an easier way of recovering the data from the 2 drives using another PC and some software?

As far as I'm aware both drives are working and the mobo failure occured when the PC was turned off
(my bruteforce and ignorance during a waterblock change  ).

Please help !

Mark.

You could try R-studio to find your settings back. That way, you cannot harm the data on the drives (if you save the recovered data to another drive offcourse :) )
Its not a simple task, but you could give it a try with the demo version.

Best regards and good luck.

Is it likely to cause problems if I remove the drives from the faulty PC and connect them one by one to another PC running R-Studio using an IDE to USB convertor in order to create a drive image from them? The host PC isn't likely to overwrite anything on the drives just by making them available to be viewed in windows explorer is it?

Thanks,
Mark.

If you put them in usb enclosures windows will not touch them i guess. There is a slight chance that it will try to scandisk the drive with the bootsector, so stay around to cancel that is neccessary.
Then image the drives and work on the images. That is the safest way.
