Looks like normal oxidisation. Unlikely to cause the problem.

You can clean this off with a pencil rubber (eraser).

Evident corrosion. Moisture and/or saline environment, or dust deposit. I vote for corrosion and/or saline, reacting with the lead-free finish. The result are low resistance dendritic growth between the traces....

With the pencil rubber, the pcb became new...but the disk is still without noname...
So i must find donor drive and begin searching how to replace the heads..
In this vid looks easy but i imagine how difficult will be, like other guys said...any tips?

Forget the vids. If you want to do it by yourself and you're new to it, you'll kill either patient and donor and data is gone for sure. Your data your choice.
P.S. you won't be able to align the heads after you open the top cover.

i love you tube, my favorite is the one where he frees a stuck head on a notebook drive with a screwdriver, gouging the platter. way to go.

Its to much difficult?? Can you explain why, im interesting to learn about, if you have time ofcource... :D
Where is the relation with top cover and the heads? Without any laughs :mrgreen: , maybe because inside the drive, the air is compressed and the heads lost the alignment after opening the cover :idea: :?:
After that, how can realign the heads, every piece of information can be useful.. :wink:

LoL, ok i'm newbie for this stuff, but i'll be carefull when the time is come...I will not drink coffee 5 days before in order to have steady hands.. :lol:
Serious now, my main problem is the lack of knowledge, not the steady hands, the second is to find a donor drive..
For the main problem, any sources to learn more about heads alignment?

Not possible. There are a lot of posts on the matter, and the end - not a happy one - is the same. All you end users are searching for what is a company capital asset, to make it clear. To find a solution, it took months if not years of study and experiments, plus materials and equipment. How much do you pay for all this? Even a training - assuming you have proper gear - starts from 5000 $. Too much? It depends.

Hmm, i see...even if I learn how to align the heads, the extra gear is needed to accomplished the rest... :cry: :)

This is the weird thing!! The disk is internal, so was inside the case, the case is on my desk above (not on the floor to kick it by mistake) cooled by 5 fans (Thermaltake case) and the psu is Hec(Windmill pro 500)
By the way, the disk was screwed in horizontal place...

Dear ALL!!

First of all, sorry for the bump, one and half years after the topic's creation..

All this time i was searching for a donor drive (and still im not able to find anyone)
but i was still reading and searching for infos to extend my, little, knowledge(in theory), in that part of technology.
I was learn basics about major problems and how they can fixed by pro's(pcb damage, rom transfer, headstack or platter replacement, motor replacement or "lubricated", negative sector, system area and vendors commands to access it with pc3000, esd dangers, clean rooms etc...)
I realize ofcourse the two major laws:
1)Backup, backup, backup
2)When the data is important the only and safest way is the professionals way..

Yesterday i was setting up a friend's desktop pc and i was thinking that the only pc that was test my "invisible" drive, is mine..
So i decide to test it once again...and voila!!
The drive was show in bios, with full name and size..
Ofcourse i was suprised..
SMART capability was ENABLED and not NONE anymore..
I test the drive to my pc(the other hadnt any OS yet) and the drive was show in bios too.

I boot up into windows and the balloon in the right corner was shown as usual about the new drive!
In disk management drive was shown as healthy with full size and name..
BUT..
When i try to open the drive from windows explorer a pop up stop my trip in the clouds.. :-p
The usual popup about "disk is not formatted" when filesystem is out..
I run a recovery prog, it scans the drive but cannot add it to "select screen" for searching.
I run chkdsk with "r" parameter, the first phase about files verification is completed with about 30
"unreadable file record segment"..
the second about indexes found and repair some orphaned files and third about security descriptors found and repair
some too.At the beginning of fourth phase an "unexpected error occurs" and stops there.
Final check for tonight is MHDD like rameez was said..
All ok in MHDD, the drive is show there as any other healthy drive.

With SCAN command, start the scanning proccess and shows some graphical infos about drives condition.
I stopped after 2 minutes to tell you about the news and what are your advices for the next step!
1)commands in MHDD and screenshots?
2)format drive under windows and try to recover files later?
3)something else?

Clone as much of the drive as you can, and then work on the clone. I would avoid using CHKDSK to repair anything at this time.

Clone the drive with a NON windows based sw, such as dd_rescue, CopyR or Mediatools Pro.

See what occurs there.

If that is successfull then use something like Rstudio or Getdataback on the drive (as a slave/USB drive)
