WD2000JD-22HBB0
The BIOS sees the drive model but claims it is 0MB; also no clicking and spins up fine.
I have a donor PCB and drive.

A drive utility shows

29.53Mb
60480 Sectors
4 Cylinders
240 Heads
63 Sectors

I can read and see all of the sectors within this range.

How do I repair the SA?

There is 3 solutions on how to fix your drive.

Hardest: is to spend at least a year in learning hdd's and how they operate, then learning how to fix easy problems and so on.....

Moderate: You send that drive to a data recovery company and they will fix it.

Easiest: Trash that drive.

... and please don't ask us to train you or give info like step by step repair course on WD200... if you need training ask me or one of the guru's , we can probably offer you a special "HDDGURU" discount price.... (a line, sometimes, must be drawn !!)

Anyone else know? Are there any pure software possibilities for this one? If not, I will send it out. I'm not a HDDGURU, but I'm also no newbie hddspecialist. You do realize almost every comment you make on posts are sarcastic which contain little to no useful information.

How about a response like "Well the SA can only be accessed with tools like PC3000 that give abilities to send factory drive commands to repair/diagnose the SA, but you might be able to try the following software etc etc.."

So no known software solutions that would emulate SA or force a drive to read parts of the drive outside the known LBA?

I would have PM'd you a while ago, but I'm starting to get good at spotting the annoying customers. At this rate, not only are you not going to find out how to fix it yourself (Which you most likely can't anyway), you might have problems sending it to someone. In general, it's wise to improve your situation. If your actions aren't improving your situation, maybe you should rethink your actions.

Oh, to answer your question...

"Well the SA can only be accessed with tools like PC3000 that give abilities to send factory drive commands to repair/diagnose the SA."

You never would have figured it out if I didn't tell you :)

No there are not solutions because the SA , called System Engineering, Track Engineering, System Area, Diskware etc are Negative cylinders -cyl, and the most software tools, access its on positive way .. tried to read this post on first

Yes there is well known software ... the software of the PC3000 or SALVATION DOCTOR. If you think that there are other solutions, well... we are sure you have an internet connection, then use that little software, you know... 'GOOGLE'... If you find the solution, good for you. Likely, you won't.
There's nothing bad in being honest and saying "I DON'T WANT TO SPEND A DIME ON IT SO IF THERE'S A FREE SOLUTION OR A GOOD SOUL THAT HAS TIME FOR ME I'LL GO FOR IT OTHERWISE I DON'T CARE FOR DATA AND DRIVE". Again, this forum is not a call center neither the manufacturer's help desk. Your problem has been addressed, now it's totally up to you to decide what data is worth and how much, with any further attempt, you want to put it at risk.

P.S. why when asking "how much can you afford" no one gives a damn figure like 200$, 100 EUR, 55000 YEN or something similar and escape instead ?

Rchadwick
All I did is called out hddspecialist for being rude many times in a row. I have nothing against anyone here.
If you think I could be an annoying customer, I gave you the wrong impression, sorry.
I re-read my posts and it seems it could come off that way, but the truth is that this drive just needs to be recovered in a hurry, and I made a couple posts based on new subjects (PCB/SA/Job for Hire).

If anyone would like some recovery jobs, please PM me.
Thanks again,
Clinton

And thanks for the SA tip rchadwick

If data is required in a hurry, I'd definitely look to have someone do it. 10 posts, one after another, won't speed the process. If nobody here is close, and willing to do it, there are tons of them on the Internet. I wish you the best of luck. Not everyone who's on here checks in every day, so you may find someone here yet.
