This morning I did a PC Recovery that wasn't supposed to delete any of my files, but only recover every application I had when I first bought my computer. Well after it was done, a good 90% of my files were gone! My used up space went from 170GB to 40GB. It should be noted that during the PC recovery the power went out while it was only about 20% done. So I had to restart the the PC Recovery afterwards. Could this be what caused my files to be deleted and does this mean they are forever gone now? Is there anything I can do to recover them? Any help would be appreciated! :(

If data is important don't do anything, just google for data recovery professional in your area and get help. If you wanna take risk then you can use some software to recover data, eg. getdataback. I would install the software "getdataback" on another computer, connect this harddrive to that comptuter and scan.

what a mess vanessa. just like biraj says, DON'T even switch the PC on again. Anything you do now to the PC/disk will only start reducing the amount of data you can get back until you eventually reach 0.

Where are you?

RAW recovery will work to the blank space leaving the space where software installed already.

I am thinking that the blank system is restored from a small image file (few gigs) that is olny written to those clusters it is inteded to occupy, without overwrtiting the rest of the drive. It depends on the program the manufacturer uses of course. That's why I said 'could'. :)

Yes there is a very good chance of getting all the important data back with virtually no loss!

One of my customers did exactly the same and I was able to recover the entire original partition with more than 95% success even though the system had been reinstalled from a recovery disk. With a small amount of work the recovered partition was bootable and working 100%.

Vanessa as mentioned before don't even switch on the pc!
The hard drive has to be mounted in a different pc as a secondary drive and a software recovery would have to be performed. You just have to find a competent recovery guy to do the work for you.

I mention again.
100% data recoverable of the left space which are not overwritten.
it could not be defined as 95% or such a %%%%
But need techniques. meet a professional.

Mates ,
Mostly 5% to 10% Data Will Be Lost And Rest Can Be Recovered By RAW Mode

No not raw mode!!!

Good software recovery tools will recover in these circumstances most of the previous partition.

Pepe has already suggested that a recovery disk installation will write to only a particular area of the drive.

In a case like this there is always a good chance to get back much of the required data in its original form with all the folder, file names and dates.

Just read again what Vanessa has said..........
Quote:
My used up space went from 170GB to 40GB.
My maths tell me there are up to 130gb's of data which has not been overwritten.

Hi ,
If Other Partitions Are ahead Then Overwritten Area Its OK With Normal Mode Recovery ,He Should Try If He does Not Want To Get Into the Hassels then He Should Give To a DR Guy,this Can be done in small fee
