Hello,
I was using my computers Sata Drive WD2500 Caviar SE - with an external powercable as my computers internal powersupply was faulty and providing enough volts to power the hdd. I feel there was some power surge and now my hdd wont power on again.
I have alot of data in it, though not VERY IMPORTANT but having some value. I have tried some data recovery companies for recovering around 160GB of my data but the cost they are estimating is way high for a personal usage disk drive. Isnt there a way to order a new PCB or something so I could recover it at home?
Note: Iam pretty much new in all this and have no idea of where to begin, the only way i can understand its powersurge is cuz i was using external power & my hdd switched off all of a sudden and the adapter stopped working too, even tried it with a new adapter, still the same.
Thanks
Regards.

What a mess. 99% you fried the preamp, also. Live without your data or pay for recovery. No option. P.s. This is the case when a neglected fault brings a lot of other problems.

As usual, (clear) pics of the drive label and component side of the PCB would help.
