Well, since I first started with the idea of a Data Recovery Association, I have been reasonalbly busy.

The website is up and running, I have still not got any help, but we live in hope....

I have decided to drop the membership fee, (its not stated on the website yet though), so that membership is now FREE until further notice, to try and get some more members. I would gladly welcome all that are here on this forum, however would more gladly welcome so help in approving those that request.

Any volunteers?

First question that arises is:
How come you are not a very active member of this forum?
Don't you think that such association should have some reputation in order to have any effect?
There is a lot of consumer protection agencies and another associations which will protect clients will be useless....

You might want to redirect your association toward supporting data recovery companies and resolving problems that data recovery industry or professionals are facing.

My suggestion is: Ask some of the reputable members of this forum to join you and lead this project or give you some ideas.

I think this will be a dead idea. Most governments are looking towards a digital forensic qualification with add on modules like data recovery specialist..

No one wants it, I think no one cares... Customer always seems to want the cheapest price even if your "LAB" is within McDonalds :O)

There has been a few of these spring up over the years. One that has stood time but only has a few members is www.globaldra.org

There are frequent online chats using skype so when one member has a problem they can call on the expertise of all members to help.

They only allow one member per country so there are no direct competition issues and there are members already from UK, Eire, Italy, Portugal, South Africa , etc. I dont know if the members would agree to more than one member per country. The purpose of the Global Data Recovery Alliance is described on the website.

Membership is free but there are conditions of membership.

What you would need is an "Independant" body to run the scheme, not a data recovery company who wants all the pies.

If its just to be the first one (without being a real DR specialist) would be absurd.

The answer is in the question. When a new member presents them self, they are asked what specialist skills they have that they are willing to share and collaborate on. They are expected to join in regular on-line conversations when other members have a problem they are unfamiliar with, or to discus new techniques and generally bounce ideas of each other. From the input from these conversations, it can be determined if they can offer the group a benefit or are just on the take, so after a probationary period existing members decide if the new member is of the calibre expected of the organisaiation.

Lame...A forum with a private area for data recovery specialists would fare better. No specialist is going to give up time and secrets to a highly suspicious site. Good luck to you though.

Some of your comments are excellent, ( I particarily like the idea of a private forum for the exchange of ideas/parts etc). I also like the idea of a directory too.

I also get the fact that many of you think that this is solely a money making excercise so I have dropped all charges just to show good willing. My company, (Disklabs) pays for all the time and expenses of running it.

I am doing this for the right reasons, I just need a bit of support from the industry.

By the way, anyone want a job in the UK?!!
