Hi to all, I'm new here and sorry for my bad english!!! I will try to explain what I have made with one of my hard disk. I have old PC stuff and I have decided to assemble a Test Server PC with these parts:
.....
- (1) Controller RAID LSI Megaraid 320-2 (518) 128MB and battery backup
- (2) Backplane U320: Intel HSP Esg x5 Hot Swap drive + Enlight EN8721 U320 x5 Hot Swap Disk (MAX 10 disks)
- (5) Seagate Cheetah U320 ST373307LCV firmware C907
- (2) New SCSI rounded cable U320 (no termination)
.....
MY PROBLEMS:
(A) The RAID Controller has the last firmware 1L49 and the channel 0 and 1 are set to U320, but the disks are recognized as SCSI-3 (U160). I have tried to change Raid firmware with DELL Perc4/DC (same hardware) but no speed difference (always SCSI-3). So I have reflashed the RAID with original LSI Firmware 1L49
(B) The hard disk drivers are marked as ST373307LCV with firmware C907 but the system recognized the drivers as SX373307LC and SCSItools shows me 16MB of cache instead of 8MB as specified. I have contacted the seagate support to explain my situation and ask about this difference between SX......LC and ST......LCV, but I have NOT received answer!!!! So I have decided to search a firmware by myself and I have found microcode from: IBM, DELL, SUN and HP. So I have used one of my disk to test the firmwares and the only one that permit me to flash was from DELL (DS09 A00) with a firmware file size smaller than the others (583K instead of 613/615K). NOW MY DISK IS DEAD. The SCSI controller (I have tested on Adaptec 29160, 2940U2W and a Host adapter LSI) show me the disk as: ST373307LC (not more SX373307LC) with Firmware DS09 but with MEDIA ERROR. With SCSItool I have noticed that it's impossible to show the SIZE and the buffer cache is 6MB (instead of 8MB or 16MB). The SCSItool utility let me the possibility to flash again the microcode but with all the other firmware (HP, IBM, SUN etc) it shows me always command error message or at the beginning of the procedure or after the block 9 or 10. I'm able to flash again only with the DS09 from Dell.
Now I would like to know it it could be possible to revert to the original firmware to save the disk or I have to trash the drive!!!!

My idea would be to dump a firmware from one of the other 4 disk drives and then try to reflash the dead drive with that file. My other questions is:

- What does the ...LCV means instead of LC? Maybe Audio Video specifications???
- Has someone an idea about the SX3733..... instead of ST3733....? I have asked several times to the seagate support without success, no one reply to my question!!! really great company!!!!

Could someone help me!!!!!
Thank you very much
Best regards
Patrick

Now it is impossible without expensive gear. And you don't want to spend, right? Option a) ask a pro to reload the code, rebuild all and recertify the drive but it will cost, b) get a new one but it will cost, c) live without one of the drives in the array - and it's free.

Thank you for the fast reply and you have right, but I would like to try to reflash the firmware anyway. So, it's possible to dump or export a firmware from a disk? An utility or something like under windows and/or Linux!!!

Thank you

Patrick

Any PC-3000 software is NOT warez.

You DO need the associated card and licence.

You are NOT going to get this done with free software or warez.

This is NOT a mobile phone you can simply "flash".

Clear enough?

:-)

P.S. Not too harsh guys?

Pc3000 is very expensive. It's hardware and software, so you won't find it on P2P. You screwed yourself.

It's free to climb a tall tree, but when you fall, the doctor will charge to set your broken arm.

just format the fking drive ;o)

SCSItool...Low Level Format and enjoy

SXxxxx drives are for RAID and usual to be EMC drives... Luckily Dell use them...so your Dell FW flash agreed with the code on the PCB... However, certain things may not be compatible... so you need to reformat..If that does not work your have a brick for a drive.
