Hi All,

I am considering asking Ace Labs for a quote for a PC-3000 SCSI to fix Seagate Medium error SCSI hard disks.

Just wondering how much you paid for it? Some DR people have paid only $2000 EURO but others have been charged $4000 EURO i have been told.
If you own this, how much did you pay and did you regret it? I don't see many SCSI disks with firmware problems. I am not sure if i will be able to recover the cost of the hardware after buying it.

Thanks, any prices you can give me may help me negotiate better with Ace Labs.

Please send the prices as a Private Message, i don't want to upset the people at Ace Labs. :)

Thanks for your help.
Zed

Since getting SCSI PC3000, we have been able to fix every seagate translator issue that arrives here, that alone has justified the cost to me!

The only issue I have is that when scanning the SCSI BUS for a device, it automatically mounts in within Windows and outside of the utility :-(

Hi Zed,

I bought PC-3000 SCSI half a year ago - I cost 2900 euro and shipment. I do not know if the prices are the same now. You'd better ask ACE Lab, their sales team proves to be very helpful! :)

It will mount in windows as the drive is connected through the SCSI bus.

Thanks all - i'll send them an email asking for a quote. At least now i know what to expect - if they try to rip me off. I'm sure they would not.

The other PMs i received from others gave similar prices, some people received a few hundred Euro discount when ordering other items, some people got bonus items like Tech support or Data extractor...but all fairly similar prices.

I don't think i'll be able to make my money back if i pay $2900 Euro for this. I don't get many disks with firmware problems for SCSI disks. I may have to increase my prices to help cover the cost over the next year or 2.

Zed.

I'm positive they wouldn't attempt to rip you off. I've had many encounters with them and they've always been straight-forward and honest. I even broke a part one time and they shipped me the replacement free!

You could ask the question: "How many people are consistently using this product with success (not speaking to the ability of the product or DR Tech but just recoverable SCSI drives)" and "How many SCSI drives do they see in a year, for recovery". But I doubt you'll get very straight answers. But if you did get straight answers you could estimate how many a year you'd need to do to pay it off, etc.

I'll tell you that I see maybe 8 SCSI drives a year. And of those maybe 2 have firmware issues. SCSI failure rates are a ton lower than other drives. It is my opinion that you'd have to take on a lot of RAID work to get the SCSI business because of the amount of failures that SCSI doesn't see compared to home failures. Maybe others will also be forthcoming and give you an idea of how many they are doing. I'd love alternate/opposing views.

Luck of the draw I guess. And it was a really small component. I would have made or fixed it myself but I was under a huge time crunch.

I decided to email ace labs today - the email bounced back. I think their mail server is down. I'll email them again tomorrow for a quote. Thanks all for your help.
