Hi,
Is there anybody out there that has a way to recover data from Samsung SP2014N Hard Drive. The PCB has been fried. can i use another model PCB? How Do i get hold of a PCB? i can see where it has been burnt from a power surge. Is it possible to buy the parts from say jaycar or an electronics store and try and fix myself? Any suggestions would be helpful. I really don't care about the drive i just mainly want the data off it. if somehow i could get it to work to be able to get data off. after that i would probably chuck it (drives r cheap data is priceless). so if anybody can help me out please let me know

the specs
Samsung SP2014N
P/N 1231J1FA144659
P/V MS
Rev. A
# on PCB: PAKDA156AA4668

Thanks Paul

Try. If the drive clicks or still doesn't work pay a pro or forget it. Clear enough?

After changing the PCB you have the last option, otherwise you have to go for Pro.

Can you upload the burnt PCB pic?

Depending on the surge, you may be lucky. If you want the full story, just search for TVS on here. If you want it quick, just remove it. To answer your next question, just remove it.

If our advice doesn't work, and the data is important, your next option is to send it to a professional.

Ya, the TVS. Remove it. You can get the drive back working n copy those data to a working drive. Otherwise, have to go to pro.

Use a solder gun to remove the burnt diode and replace it with any similar one from any pcb. Careful about the polarity. Or like they said, just remove it but also be careful when you plug it cause it might damage the whole pcb.
