hi,

3 months back i bought seagate 160Gb HD newly. i installed Win Xp, suddenly i dropped my HD on floor while HD on active. After that i formatted that new HD and using as Secondary. now im using old HD 80GB HD as primary with Xp installed.

Problem starts here... while using Xp, secondary HD(newly bought 160GB) automatically get disconnecting and it not at all showing in My Computer section. It is showing only primary HD partition drives. If i restart the system, then also it is not at all showing that 2ndary Hd drives.... the only way i can see is if i shutdown the system fully and againg if i start, then it is showing that secondary HD drive... If i use that secondary drives continously no problem arise... if i keep that secondary HD silent for 5-10 min then that HD gets disconnecting..... that too will show only for 5 minutes, after 5 or 10 min that secondary HD again it ll disconnect.... wat to do?.... Is any problem with my HD disk. Im fed up of these things..

Can anyone give suitable solution for this.?

What is it about Seagate drives and people dropping them. It's almost like an epidemic!

If you need the data on the 160 GB then contact a data recovery company near to you. dont turn it on any more or make further attempts at recovery, you may make the situation worse. If the drive has suffered a head crash, then powering on and off may make it spread.

Read this, it may shed some light on the problem.

Maybe Seagate use an external lubricant on the disks before being released, would explain a lot lol

1st problem "3 months back i bought seagate 160Gb" Seagate are rubbish. Worst drives on the planet at the moment. (2 / 3 years ago the best. But then they started penny-pinching with their manufacturing.)
2nd problem "i dropped my HD on floor" - normally not good, unless you are in a padded cell...

Someone here will be able to help you - choose a regular poster nearby.

On what basis do you claim seagates to be the worst? And is this based on performance or failure rate? Would you prefer a Seagate with frozen spindle, or WD5000Ys with dead heads? A Seagate 7200.11 stays BSY, or a Maxtor Sabre?

I admit seagate have their faults, but when compared to other disks in the market, they are not the worst.

I guess its all down to personal preference

I agree, you seem to hate seagates because you probably see a lot of them.

I would like to put money on that seagates failure rates are no higher than other makes. We all see a lot of seagates but only because they are the worlds most popular brand.

I don't see you having a go at toshiba for their dodgy fluid dynamic bearings, maybe it's because you can easily fix them.

If you want I will come and show you how to recover data from a Seagate hard drive. I will even bring my platter swap device which you can use with hard dives with spacers, it doesn't even weigh 65 KG.

It truely is a fine device and it's real.

There is a solution but is a solution that requires perfecting before attempting as the risk of mis-alignment and data loss forever is high for a newbie.

I highly recommend that you send this disk for a professional evaluation with a DR company competent enough to do this job.
