Hello, I have a bad WD drive and was wondering if anyone could help with diagnosing the problem. I'm pretty sure that the problem was caused by a bad power cord that I didn't replace in a timely manner. It would pop on and off probably 2 or 3 times a day for about a month. Anyway the drive finally quit working. I can hear it spin for about 7 or 8 seconds when initially plugged in then nothing. Could it be the PCB or the heads? If so are these parts that I can purchase and replace? Any information towards this matter will be greatly appreciated..

thank you.. :|

Based on the way you asked this question, you are in over your head.

Since it tries to spin, it is unlikely to be the board that is at fault. That means that it is not user serviceable. Sorry.

The cost will be high. If you can't afford it at the moment, save money until you do.

Bad head or firmware issue. And no user option. How much can you afford for DR?

yes, I am rather new to this type of thing.. although I can fix just about anything else put in front of me.... this is a whole another species. :? I only have a few hundred dollars to spend on DR and I'll need to save first. I was just hoping that by replacing the heads that it might fix the problem. Any other info is welcome, thank you...

Any attempt is risky. If data is valuable ask a pro otherwise diy but don't seek advice or ask how to...
