I have been accumulating more and more good HDA's from recoveries, dead drives, spares, etc...
I currently put a peace of plastic between the heads and then carefully store them in a anti static bag. I am looking for a better way of storing them and wanted to know what other people are doing.

we normal store ours in a plastic case and use ESD BOX not static bags
as the piece of plastic might just fall out of the head

number each bag and when we need the headstack we get them out
when needed.
computer data base of what headstack we got in stock and logic boards.

store in a cool dry place.

Craig, that's exactly why I was looking for a better solution. The ESD box sounds good. I will look into it.

P.S. I am in the process of coding a Inventory database in SQL and VB as we speak

I use little ESD boxes and seperate the heads with little rubber wedges cut from an eraser. Less likely to fall out.

What is an ESD box? Similar to a Seashell clear box you get with Seagate drives?
Any link to a site i can buy some of these ESD boxes you refer to?

esd stands for Electro Static Discharge

if you work with hard drives a lot o would get a esd mat
which we use all the time.

Surely the safest way to store the heads are inside a sealed HDD? It takes a bit longer to take them out but at least they are protected. Thats what I use. All donor disks are stored in an inventry database which logs all the different HDD details.

Similar thing with my storage.

To be honest, its more of a physical disability. I'm all tongue and wrists but my brain is good.

All tongue and wrists? How does that work for head replacement?

I would like to point out I always wear a mask to prevent dribbling on the platters.
