Now I have new problems:

1. Antivirus intercepts most SD usb driver as a virus. Didnt have a problem before with the same antivirus software.
2. WD doctor has a section to change the head map but the function just corrupts your rom or doesn't work.
3. Manuals are a mess. Update one manual with all the info. Im tired of downloading twenty manuals for the same tool. Seriously, why is half the manual devoted to installing the software.
4. Pop up update never works but still annoys me. Just get rid of it. I will update when I feel like it.
5. SD forum is basically useless. Hard to navigate to find updates, firmware, and manuals. Your going to get faster and better help posting here. Lack of a ftp site for uploading firmware bugs me.
6. All the tools are a year or two behind the current technology.
7. What is this new database thing and how can I get rid of it?

8: Update program in WD doctor doesn't update the software,
it updates the firmware of the box , and makes previous versions of
WD Dr not work.

This is new news to me. How do you know which firmware your box has? About 90% of the time I click cancel. I can still use previous software versions.

I did uncheck the database thing because it was getting annoying...

I have been trying for over a month to get the old firmware for my box

Weird, maybe another SD user can confirm this.

Dear thatdellguy,

For the problems you mentioned here, some of them are undergoing and we already put into our upgrade plans:

Now I have new problems:

1. Antivirus intercepts most SD usb driver as a virus. Didnt have a problem before with the same antivirus software.----We have already contacted AVG, Norton. If you use a different antivirus, please contact me.

2. WD doctor has a section to change the head map but the function just corrupts your rom or doesn't work..---------I will sumbit it to our D & R dept immediately. If you can give me more info, such as screenshot, resource files, it will help us greatly.

3. Manuals are a mess. Update one manual with all the info. Im tired of downloading twenty manuals for the same tool. Seriously, why is half the manual devoted to installing the software.

.------In fact, we put all our files and case study into the DVD. We may take your suggest and reorganize the manual.

4. Pop up update never works but still annoys me. Just get rid of it. I will update when I feel like it. -----.------Okay. I already sumbited the problem and I hope it can be fixed within 2 weeks..

5. SD forum is basically useless. Hard to navigate to find updates, firmware, and manuals. Your going to get faster and better help posting here. Lack of a ftp site for uploading firmware bugs me..------------that's a problem. I don't know how to solve it in a short time. So we listed some most often used files/documents on America Market Dept. website :http://www.diskdatarecoverytools.com/download.html
If there is any new upgrades, you can get the info here..

6. All the tools are a year or two behind the current technology. .
--------Well, as you know, HDD manufacturers release many different models one year. We need time to analyze and study. It needs more time. However, we will try our best to keep up-to-date..
7. What is this new database thing and how can I get rid of it?
.------In fact, it is a database for firmware, we will add our current firmware resource into it. Besides, you can backup your firmwares lab. You can disable it when installation

Thank you so much for your suggestion.

Thank you very much. I hope we can improve our products and service with your help.

Regards

Laura

I have gotten the same thing .
I can add, if you try to correct the head map to 8 heads ,
and write map to rom , it corrupts the rom so that pcb no longer functions.

Also the head map function only has 6 available heads, and not
the full 8

My HD Doctors just sit in a drawer. From time to time, I pull one out to see if I can make it do anything useful. Thus far, the answer is no. What is the point in being able to mount a Maxtor drive with a loader if you can't copy the data from the drive? I find the SD staff friendly and they do try to help. But, as of yet, I haven't made $1 from the HDD Doctor tools.

The HD HPE has been well worth the money. Though, without being able to deal with the plates between the platters or with the drives that don't have enough space for the "coffee can" to fit around, it is becoming less useful.

I'd like to play with the Data Compass, but have my doubts that it will do much more than the tools I already have. With the USB interface, I am pretty sure that it won't read data any faster.

I too have all the HD doctors and find them not so good at the moment. But the fact is that I am new and the books they give are not worth the paper they are printed on. The forum does not work and people will not post there. It is hard to get FW for this device and if you find it more times it is not good for the drive you are working on and have to go and search again for the firmware and if you can get it is the same one that someone has given you to use before. It is hard to get Tech support. They are good but you have to find them on line when they work and the hour difference for me is very great to do this.

I have the PC3000 UDMA too and find that I do not have so many issues with that the manual is very well written and it takes time to get use to it and understand it but once you get past that part the machine works well and does what it was designed to do recover and fix bad hard drives.

In HD doctor I too have may problems with screen size and even when trying to adjust it does not work and have a mess with the programs. The original version in DC was funny to use. I found that it would see my drive but when I wanted to recover and clone the drive it would not do it for me. I found that if I used the DC and it saw the drive on SATA I could go to my PC and open this drive attached to the DC and get what I wanted from it. I found that on more than one drive attached to the DC. I tried their new beta version and it was really bad. Now they have given the new version that is not beta and it seems to do the job better. It works good after doing sector by sector cloning with PC 3000 to attach to the DC and get the data off it. I can do it quicker now with the new program than before with the original one that came with the DC.

From what I can see and have used the seagate is good and makes it a little easier to work on the drives with. I know that you always have to try and see if there is new updates but the major problem is FW for these models. I know people use them a lot and have a big library of FW but they are not willing to help out people who do not have it so you waste a lot of time trying to find what you need for this machine.

Sorry can't tell you a lot more that is all that I have seen in these two machines. I do use PC3000 more than I use HD doctor series. I was hoping they would give more information on them and more description on how they work than what they have so far and the forum is not a lot of help people don't use it and post to it at all. Guess it is the fact that they never receive answers to the posts and have to go other places to find what they are looking for.
