If you have access to original ROM, that would be the best thing to do.
Which equipment are you using? PC3000 or Salvation?

Hi,
With PC-3k PCI you can't read ROM from WD1600JD-75HBB0
Techno commands (for read ROM) are blocked by Marvell bridge 88i8030
If you use PC-3k PCI solution for work with WD1600JD-75HBB0 is use compatible PATA board 2060-701265-xxx REV A from WDxx00JB-00GVA0 / WDxx00JB-00GVC0 instead of original SATA PCB (ROM must be replaced/reprogrammed)
ROM you can read in this way
read-write-serial-flash-wdc-logic-boards-t7192.html

Ah,

I was wondering why I got Techno key error message with pc3k but no problems with salvation tool.

That makes sense.

I would like to back to this discussion with one more question:

Is this mean, that the only way to get into techno mode (using WD Caviar utility of PC3K in NORMAL Mode - to do checks of SA etc.) with this kind of WD drives I must put compatible PCB with PATA version :?

Or maybe there is other way to force techno reading in NORMAL mode with original SATA PCB using PC3k PCI :?:

Best Regards
Damon

Well from my understanding the Marvell 88i8030 bridge controller converts parallel ATA to SATA. And in the process blocks some functions that PC3K uses. Since it essentialy is an ATA pcb, you could remove the Marvell 88i8030 bridge controller and just bridge any connections. Maybe even short circuiting the Marvel controller. (just thinking out loud, I did not actually test this  )
