 Post subject: Any chance to code your own firmware for harddisks ?

Hello gurus!

Anyone know or have any experiance at coding your own firmware for harddisk if so what i need to learn and which debuggers and i need to get my information of the harddisk.

I'm sure you could, but why would you want to?

People have written aftermarket operating system firmware for cellular phones before.

well why i want do it ? there are a lot of reasons maybe on you can encrypt your disk saver and since i code a new type of a firewall i need to know how deep i can go into the hardware area and change or replace it.

What do a firewall and drive encryption have to do with each other? Firewall is for network security and has remote implications. Drive encryption is for security in case of lost or stolen hardware, and has physical implications.
