Hi everyone:

This is to find out if anyone has ever used the YEC duplicator. Three is all this talk about DeepSpar disk imager, Salvation Data Data Compass but I have seen this one and was wondering if anyone has ever gotten one and used it. It is a little expensive and do not want to invest in something that will be a waste of money. They have 3 different model. One is a single, one for 5, and a forensic model. Just courious as to what you think of this duplicator and if it is really worth the money to invest in something like this

If you have PC3000, you should get Data Extractor, which is one of the advanced ones.

Thank for the replay

When I ordered my PC3000 UDMA from ACE I ordered the complete package with DE included. I have used the DE to duplicate the drives with after fixing them with the specialized tools. I know it takes a long time to do all this and I only have 1 PC3000. I was just wondering if anyone has every had this duplicator and used it and if it will free up the PC3000 to do other jobs and use this to duplicate the drives after repair. Just curious that is all. I know the DC will read drives after duplicated and pull the data off them and can do some work but not all that is needed to repair drives with. I read a lot of stories on this machine and on the DE. But I have never heard anything about the YEC. I hear some like the DeepSpar and other throw it in the cupboard because they hate it. Just wondering if this is a good duplicator or just another copy from all the ones out on the market. It is a company based out of the US that has made this.

I've gotten a lot of good use out of the software HD Duplicator... significantly cheaper than hardware imagers and you can use it on more than one computer at a time.

This information is very helpful to me. Here it is hard to make people understand what DR is. I need all the informaiton I can get on duplicator and which one people like and think works for needs of duplication. Then I can get one for me besides the one that is with the PC3000 DE. I know the more work that comes in I can not tie up one machine just to duplicate the drive or clone the drive to pull the data off of it.

If anyone has more input please I would love to hear it also if you have an idea how I can build one or make one for me please could you help. I do not want to take your design. Just a small push as to where to start and I will find the rest. You do not have to give me any trade secrets just ideas of how to start to look into building one for me.

hellp poehere
i have the ninja imager and find it is is ok when i all iwant is to image a working drive, or erase a drive, as for duplicating anytinh with bad blocks i find it doesent work and have reverted to software imagers which work better.

if you encounter drives with problems on them you wil find it will be disappointing.

I was decideing at the time when purchasing if i really need it or want it, and propably should of purchased deepar instead.

as we also have a computer service business i find it useful for imaging customers drives quickly prior to windows reinstalls so its good for that :)

Poe,
To summarize it, Yec Ninja is rather for mass cloning or It department sort of things. For Data recovery purpose, investment in Data Extractor is rather a good choice.

1. Yec Ninja is for "speed" not for error handling. And in DR, we need the "Error handling" portion, speed is not so critical.

2. Data Extractor (Or Deepspar) are the tools especially built for DR. You may not get much speed though, but you will get a nice return, when it comes to drive with bad sectors/heads/dirty media.

Also, as far as freeing up the system is concenred, that's why there are two ports in PC3000. ATA0 and ATA1. While one is working, you can work on another without any problem.

Also, check your PM :)

I've said it before, but I'm a big fan of Deepspar. We have now bought 3 of these devices.

It does pretty much everything DE can do, well at least the features I use.

Plus:

1. Easy to read live graphical representation on whats happening to each block of sectors.
2. Live commentry on MBR,FAT,NTFS etc found.
3. Live count of file headers found as it goes along (i.e. number of Office docs, pics etc found)
4. Read "unreadable" sectrors with no ECC, using oversampling to get "best guess" at what each byte should be.

And it leaves the PC3000 machine free for other work.

The only thing it can't do AFAIK is image Seagate and Samsung by heads (apparently the Samsung bit will be in the next s/w release, but not Seagate as it does not have the serial interface required to do it).

Mine are in use 24/7 and have paid for themselves many many times over :-)

Hot swap facility is supported (i.e. sleep donor HDA and replace with patient)

However, loaders etc required in some cases are not supported obviously, and that's where DE comes in useful, as well as the pre-mentioned ST head maps.

So in summary, Deepspar is my preferred imager, but any decent DR company should have it as well as DE as part of their arsenal. There have been some cases which would not have been possible with one device, and vice-versa.

I agree with PCImage on this..

I think the Seagate heads map may not be too distant as it is fairly cheap to make a terminal adapater. Privided users keep asking for it of course :)

This has all been very helpful. I will take all your information and the information I have on deepSpar and complie it and submit it for approval to get one of these machines. I thank you all for your valueable input to my question. It has really helped me. It took me over 3 months research to decide to get the PC3000 UDMA plus DE. I wanted to make a good choice and not be disappointed in the end. ACE was a good choice for me and I am finally understand how to get around inside of it. It might take me some time but things are coming and I have been able to repair a number of drives using the PC3000. I will be tell you that most of the drives that have come in for repair so far have been Maxtor. So guess will get really good on them for now. Thank you so much for all your import it has really helped me out so much
