Hello everybody!
I'm from Uzbekistan.
I need help with my Western Digital HDD. It's 250 GB. RPM is 7200. Model nummber is WD2500JS-75NCB2. Drive parameters: LBA 488281250
I connected it unproperly to the motherboard and now it is not working. I showed it to some people who understand that kind of stuff, they opened the HDD and found out that a little thing, called "controller", as they said to me, has been fried up!
The HDD came with Dell XPS 200. I bought it in WA. I can't get any support or anything from Uzbekistan. THe only HDDs that are in use in Uzbekistan are Maxtor and Samsung.
We're guessing if I had another motherboard/chipset of WD HDD, I would be able to use the HDD again. I have some very important data in the drive. I don't understand anything in this field. And, as far as I know now, I can't buy any Western Digital HDD here in Uzbekistan.
I'm attaching the pictures of the HDD. Please, help me! I don't need the HDD itself, I don't want to use it again. I just need the data in it. Is there any other way, if I can't find a way of fixing/replacing the HDD's motherboard? Please, help!...

Without access to a replacement PCB, you don't have much options. Of the top of my head I could think of the following:

A) If you are knowledgeable about hard drives try and find a donor pcb.
B) Ask on the forum for the person which is closest to your country you mabe be able to send it to them for recovery.
C) Try asking on the Russian forum for help

Without a replacement PCB, recovery impossible.

You can get one from Ultratec...

https://www.ultratecdirect.com/stocklis ... rch=cg298&

It's a B-Grade part but perfectly acceptable for DR purposes. They also ship to your country.

You can read up some more about swapping PCB's on a WD drive, you'll need to swap the ROM chip (denoted by U12) on the PCB.

Thank you all for your replies.
I've tried the Russian forums, but no help so far. I really need that data inside the HDD... :(
The http://www.ultratecdirect.com/ website is not working. I also don't know where to ask the people for help

Use this site http://www.ultratec.co.uk/ to find same PCB .
Resold the U12 from original PCB to the new PCB.
Plug the new PCB on patient drive and backup your data.

Are you sure that this PCB has actually an external serial flash ROM? The SO8 device between the SATA power and data connectors can also be some kind of load switch or regulator MOSFET. Check if you have an U12 before you order another PCB, as some model have the ROM with the adaptive data within the CPU :(

This would mean that you have to swap the CPU to the new PCB and pray that it did not blew when the motor combo did.
Chances are that the preamp inside the HDA has also been damaged. I've been given a HDD to practice on on which the flex prints within the HDA have vaporized. Looks nice on the platter, fortunately it's only one in my drive, but three in yours :(

(another way would be to replace the blewn motor combo chip, but this would require to check all components around it for defects)

People! Thank you all for your kind replies, but I can't efford buying another mainboard from abroad. Does anyone have this same kind of HDD? Can anyone lend me it so I could recover my data real quick? I only need it to backup my data. After it, I don't need the disk. Please, help! I've got some very important documents in the HDD. And I'm not very good at understanding technical stuff...

Then you should not mess around with this one, anything you do can damage your data forever, or at least the borrowed PCB.
If you cannot afford an used disk from eBay or something, then you probably could also not afford and electronics engineer to check the electronics or even a data recovery specialist. That's bad...

That's definitely the EEPROM on 701335 boards.

Can you please specify what have you done to damage the board ?

Okay, I'll try to do my best to explain it. So, the power cord has four different coloured lines. After the drive stopped working I realized that the yellow one wasn't connected at all; it fell off of that white connector. That's all. I'm sorry if I wasn't clear enough, and excuse me for my bad English :)

And I guess, I'm gonna give up. I still can't find any way of retrieving my data :(

You mean you can't find a way of retrieving your data FOR FREE?

You have been given the instructions on how to do it, but you won't/can't.

Data obviously not THAT valuable.

Sorry to hear it.

I'm very sorry if I'm annoying you guys. Maybe you don't know, but Uzbekistan is limited in terms of using payments via internet, in some way. PayPal doesn't accept us, not many people use Credit Cards here (you rarely meet any person here who uses CC). According to your valueable advices I visited some websites where the data recovery / replacement is offered, but I was confused when it came to methods of payment. That was first. The second thing is, our mail system is really f.ed up. I've heard many things about sent things getting lost. I simply didn't trust the mail.
I was looking some way of getting the data here - in Uzbekistan. By myself, if possible. That's why I said "I can't find any way..."

I thank you all for your kind advices!

I've been to US only once in my life. I was an exchange student. I love America! There I took a lot of photos, photos of my host family, american friends... all that was on the HDD. Besides that, I've been working on a huge paper project. It's been about 3 years since I started it. I do have a backup, but it's not as new as the one I left on WD HDD. :( I can re-do my paper work, but I really want the pictures back, cuz it's my memory! I have more than 15 GB of JPG images there :(

After thinking about this issue for some time I decided to take the drive to Tashkent (capital city of Uzbekistan). I hope I'll find someone who can fix it. If I won't, then my last chance is to send the drive to UltraTec via EMS from Tashkent. Wish me luck!

Thank you all who have answered my questions and tried hard to help me!
Now I guess, with your permission, the topic is closed.
I LOVE HDDGURU.COM!

Good luck in Tashkent.

If you're out of luck there, and are prepared to send to UK, we'll be cheaper than Ultratec for sure with special hddguru discount.
