I promised I would post the data recovery results of this drive. For those who missed it: hitachi-80gb-t11893.html

Original Drive: HTS541680J9SA00, MLC:DA1928, HITACHI P/N:0A50518 and manufactured in JUN07.
Donor Drive : HTS541680J9SA00, MLC:DA1587, HITACHI P/N:0A28842 and manufactured in JUN07.

Motor was unseized, Head transplant and data sucessfully recovered using Data Extractor with minimal BBK & UNC.

I would also like to send a special shout out to HeadCrash for sending me this PM in relation to my first post: "Good Luck DUMB ASS....you dont deserve anuything from this forum."

Final note thanks to the gurus who provided assistance in the matter.

And you had UDMA + DE and you didn't think about motor problem ? OR you took it to a pro with proper equipment ...

I smell BS.

It's not the first time someone has claimed to fix the hard drive on their own without 'PRO' help. It's quite sad really.

If you did it yourself why don't you write a step by step guide?

Obviously I knew it was a motor problem, PC3K wasn't going to ID the drive until the damaged heads were replaced :). Some pros here prefer to flame and big note themselves. I posted my results so that I could share my experience for the benefit of everyone.

So you bought a platter extraction tool and set up a clean room to do it or you did it by hand on your garage?

Just curious is this your first platter, head swap, and stuck motor drive that you have done. I did read your first post and you stated heads were stuck to platter. It would be interesting if you could explain on a first try how you got the heads unstuck and all of this changed over to your donnor drive. Maybe there is new techniques that nobody knows about and only you understand. If you could share some of your experiences that would be great. Waiting to see how you managed all of this.
