I'm looking for help on an internal Western digital hard disk drive that does not seem to be getting any power.

The internal hard disk was originaly used on a USB setup however after the unit failed to work I removed it from its housing an plugged it directly into my PC as the slave unit. The hard disk does not spin or seem to get any power. I have ruled out the power to the unit as my other hard disks operate correctly using the same cable. Can anyone help me with this problem on how to get the data from the hard disk.
:(

Check for any burned microchips on a board.
Most likely your square motor controler chip is toasted-SH6950D

It would help if you posted a hi-res pic or scan of the component side of the PCB.

Thats a great pic. Thanks!

I can't see any obvious problem from the pcb component side.

I had a very close look at the PCB and could not see any signs of damage.
What if anything can i try to get the disk working or the data back ?

Hello,

This is hard.
You need the proper knowledge for diagnose the pcb and repair it.
Or a good tool to read out the internal ROM and write it back to another known good and matching pcb.

Without these, i suggest to find a pro near you.
If the preamp is not burned, the cost will be low.

(For me about 100-150 EUR.)

Regards,
Janos
