Test board on pc3k and becomes ready but drive will not spin up. Motor ic chip is bad on board. I have a like pcb board from another hitachi - not same model or size - drive but not same board specifications at all. What are the specs or rules for swapping moter ic chips from one like board to another. Do I have to match the chip excatally or can I use another chip to replace this one with. I have done it on Maxtor drives where chip was burned out and found a drive with pcb that was not completely compatable and took chip from this one and put on bad board. But in this case the chips were compatable and could be swapped between boards. Is there other rules involved when matching motor ic chips or just go for it and see if it will work? No it is not a tvs problem I tested them and they are good. If this one is not possible I think that I should be able to match motor ic chips with another board and be able to use this on my board to get drive to spin up. Thanks or just find a new pcb and swap ram chips and forget about it all together.

Forget reworking the pcb unless you have NEW IC. Get a fully compatible board and 'make the ends meet' ;-)

You have to match a model of IC.
There is very few ic's that compatible with each other.

There is russian website that sells motor controller ic's www.getchips.com

I have upon occasion used motor ICs with different numbers on Hitachis, but they were from the same basic PCB design. It's risky and I don't recommend it.

Send me the numbers off of the chip and if I have a match I will send it to you.
