Hello.

I'm having a problem where my PC won't start if I plug in a SATA hard drive's power wire. With out it everything works fine.
When I turn PC on the lights blink for 1 second, but then just shuts down.

Tried connecting the hard drive to another computer(with different wires and connectors) and got exactly the same result.

I understand that the hard drive power connector is damaged, but is there any way I can get the data of it? The connector on the hard drive it self looks perfectly fine.

Thanks!

Very common problem. If you search for TVS on this forum you will find more information.
Data recovery pros make a lot of money from this problem, which any amateur can solve with
a little care and for FREE !!

Disagree!
We don't know the model/brand at this tiopic.
Replacing the pcb can be dangerous for the data!
Plese don't suggest anything when you don't know what you are saying!

Hi ,
I already say to please select the same model no /firmware /model no...to replace the pcb and thats the first step.
to check the faulty hard drive...and take this process to check the hard drive having this type of problem.thats the very simple problem and we have to help.

Still disagree!

The most of the pcbs have calibration / adaptive data inside.
Without these matching, with only matching stickers, the simple user easily can ruin hes data!!!
So, the suggestion is bad without known exact model.

Hi Withyou,

I think Gustavs will be better off withoutyou.
As N.C. wrote your advice has a small chance (Some 7200.7)
of being correct.

Gustavs did you find out info on TVS ?

Yes, there is a really small chance, but there is much more chance to ruin or corrupt hes data with another pcb.
I have seen a lot of times on seagate, it works with another pcb, but the data structure was different, and the scandisk was the real killer, because the user don't know about the different structure....
So, for protecting the users, the best suggestion is "ask only" and "don't do" alone...
In seagate, this is not a good idea.

period.

"As per my experience".
I think, this dude keeps mumbling these words even while sleeping too.

This time I really remember, what Janos said in one of his post, it's modified version could be:
This world would be more secure "WITHOUT" you.

Hi Hard Disk Bug ,
Better you have to give some suggestions with your own best of your knowledge as some body ask you or they want to help.as we are here to distribute our knowledge
and regarding hard drive either that is Manufactured by Seagate /WD /Maxtor /Westorn Digital/Fujitsu or many more
If problem is having from pcb and you replace the pcb with exact part no and firmware at seagate (if that is not dropped )you can find the data back at upto 90 %cases as i just share my experience or if you are having any suggestions please give the suggestions to rectify the problem..or we will mislead the user at this forum????.
Please give more suggestion as we want you for more fruitful answers if you think.
As criticism is better but mislead is not a good thing at healthier way.
and absolutily thats the first step for not detecting hdd and after that we will check the firmware and next to open the hdd ...
If you are having any other process than please suggest.

Like a man with the axe in the forest... :?

The most important is the diagnose.
First you need to measure the pcb without power, measure the preamp and everthing is good, measure the pcb alone with power, and if everithing is still good the next step can be the first start....
If no luck, you can check the pcb correct matching, and the connection to the HDA.
If still good, than the SA, and heads and servos, and so on.....

Withoutyou,

Just like real world, there are a few un-written, un-spoken rules about the forums. Being helpful is a nice thing, but there are some other things too. I suggest you to read some previous posts before your joining. Or, you can PM me or live chat me via messenger. After that, we would love to be WITHyou, not WITHOUTyou.

Withyou,

We never said, that sharing is bad or a "not to be done" kind of thing. But as I said, there are a few basic moral rules, which one should never forget.
As, you said, that what was your planning to "Share" it out, which makes it more freaky (about clean room and all that..whoa...)
Rest, you are wise yourself (I atleast hope so).

PM means Private Messaging, which is done between members to really "Share" and talk. It's a feature of forum, and you can find it in your user control panel.
