Hi,

not free, but simple solutions.
If you don't need the data, just the hard disk:
http://www.hddunlock.com/

If you also need the data:
http://www.hdd-tools.com/products/rrs/

Hope this helps,
Peter

Find program HDD Repair V2.0 - it's free some have said.

I don't use this program, but I am told it can do what you want.

You mean as master, not primary.
See http://www.hddunlock.com/support/faq/#9
In case you have only a single IDE connector, and the primary master is occupied, then take the HDD to another computer which either boots from SATA, or has two IDE channels.

Best regards,
Peter

Search ATA password on this forum. You'll find more info. Also google ATA password, you'll find out how the password works in the hard drive. These info may give you some insight.

If it was a factory default password, yes most of the free software you find will do the job but if it was a user defined password, you might have to go with a paid service to get it removed...

There are lots of pros on this forum who can unlock it for you but there will be a fee.

Other thought is it might be cheaper to just go buy another hard drive. 120 GB IDE is not that expensive. You can buy it for the same cost or less for unlocking your current drive.

If you are going to toss it, I'll buy the drive for $15 to include S&H via Priority Mail!!!
