Hi,
I have a Seagate500GB Freeagent 3.5" ext HDD and i accidently killed my HDD by plugging in 20V notebook adapter(12V org.). I removed the case and took out the usb adapter in it and now i have a 500GB 7200.11 ST3500820AS int. HDD in my hand. I guess the problem is the PCB or any electronic part on it. When i plug the drive into my PC via sata cable my PC stops responding, doesn't open and even the power led doesn't work. All dead..When i took it of everything goes back to normal. So please help with this situation. I decided to swap PCB but i read that its useless(is it?). And if i swap PCB with a working one do i loose data on my HDD.
One more question;
if PCB swap work which Seagate models use the same or compatible PCB with my HDD

Thnx

First, you should check the tvs. Search the threads for tvs , you'll find some explanations.

it seems i'll check and remove the tvs if it is faulty but before i have a question.
When i plug it into my pc via sata slot on my asus MB and when i turn the pc on nothing happens. No lights, no sound, no electricity..nothing. All dead. When i remove the HDD everything turns OK. Is this normal.

And thnx for the advice...

1 more thing...Can i replace the tvs on my HDD with any tvs removed from any seagate HDD...maybe my old 200GB SATA?

Sounds like at least the TVS problem... As long as it has the same capacity, then you can use the old TVS from other seagate drive. Good Luck!!!
