Hi guys!

I have a problem whit my disk! here some info:

The Hard Drive is a Western Digital WD1600 WD Caviar SE
MDL: WD1600JS-75NCB1
DCM: DSBHCTJAH
Rev. A00 DP/N 0DC115

In Bios only is detected As Slave not as Master (My motherboard use Sata but show as IDE devices whit Primary/Slave) and Show "MODEL HAWK 10.02E01 S/N -ROM SN#XYZ--- CHS: 15528" whit only 16GB... I'm shure that is a Firmware problem... I triet to use MHDD and Others tools.. but nothing... any idea will help!

The replace of PCB plus equal firmware works? Thanks!

If you have the hardware to update the firmware, it may fix the problems. If you don't have the hardware & software package to complete the process, you might want to send it in to a data recovery firm.

I can't tell you without looking at your drive, but if your drive power up and spin and the BIOS detects it as what you said, then more than likely you are facing the firmware issues and your PCB might be fine.

If you swap the PCB, you have to change some modules in the firmware to make it compatible with that new PCB. There are lots of pros here on the forum, check to see if anyone is in your area. Some of them are even giving out i think up to 20% HDDGURU discount.

malolin,

Based on your story, i am not sure at all, this is a (simple) fw problem.
Yes, it can be fw problem as well, but usually this comes from another problem, like head malfuction or similar.

Anyway try this steps:
remove the PCB from the HDA, and power up this one only!
Wait 10 minute, than press CTRL-ALT-DEL and let see what happens in the bios!
I am curious you will have to find the same thing.... :(

if you want to read some general info/warning, read this topic:

please keep as informed....
