In the past 5 days I have seen 2 different hard drives (both seagate) which have been to PC World in the UK. These hard drives are from customers in different parts of the country. Both customers state that The 'Gurus' at PC World have attempted recovery by changing the PCB and replacing the heads.

Both drives has simple TVS faults, both drives have been opened, and both drives have severe damage to the platters which includes scractches, smudges, finger prints, and scores. So the Guru at PCWorld changed the PCB and when that didnt work they decided it must need a head transplant.

I now have two very distraught customers who have lost precious photos of their children because some arse has decided data recovery must be easy. To be honest, looking at the state of the platters the culprut is likely to be someone with no arms thats performs head swaps with their teeth.

In the past PCWorld usually only formats customers hard drives without backing up the data first but now they are getting ambitious.

has anyone else seen a sudden rise of PCWorld Disasters or is it just me?

Maybe fellow Gurus would like to post their own Diskaster stories and why not post some photos.
