I have a problem that I find quite strange, I got 2 WD5000AAKS (raid0) connected to a DFI Lanparty NF4SLI-DR mother board. It have worked just fine since I installed them (last spring I think) until a couple of weeks ago. It boots up just fine and finds the raided disks (its not my system disk) but after a while it disconnects itself and I dont see it in the device manager anymore (I run Windows).
The MB has a Silicon Image Sil 3114 chip and I have read comments about it not being so good, I have also read (in here) that many disks may behave strange if there is a problem with a TVS.
Im not so good at this kind of problem even thogh I work with computer hardware (but not at this level). I have not looked underneath the PCB to take a look at the TVS and I dont have any equipment to test if they are OK or not.
I have checked cables and both disks sounds good, they spin and all looks just fine.
My first guess was that one of the disks has some kind of a problem but I cant figure out what, I have tried GetDataBack (I have it at work) but it stopped after about 40% scanning and then the disks were disconnected again.

I wonder if anyone recognize the problem and might point it out right away or maybe give me a hint on what the problem might be?

Anything else you need to know about my setup?

I know that everyone hates to hear this response, but if the data is important to you, get it checked out by a professional. At the very least, pay a professional mirror each drive in the RAID array. If you cannot figure it out on your own, you can go back to them and pay them the quoted price to do the full recovery. However, if you choose to go it on your own first, you will likely make the job much more expensive and a lot less likely to be recovered successfully.

TVS is not the problem. If it was, your drive would not spin at all.

Luke is right, you need to get good images of both these drives, and then worry about the RAID.

If you haven't got the right imaging equipment, I recommend you get them imaged properly by a pro. If there's nothing major wrong with them, it should be reasonably priced.

So, I could try to make images of the drives one by one... like ordinary Ghost images?
Am I then supposed to get those images back on 2 new 500 gig drives or is there a way of mounting them?

Not with ghost; a real binary image is needed.
Older version of ghost have this option, but i dont know about the recent ones.

CASE CLOSED

After 2 days of trial & error I managed to get all files but 6 on to my new 1TB disc, quite pleased with the result actually

I did it the hard way I suppose, I moved the files one directory at the time. When it disconnected I tried that file once more... sometimes it passed fine the second time, sometimes it didnt. If it didnt pass the second time I skipped that one and continued with the next.
I belive that I rebooted my computer at least 200 times while doing it
Now the faulty disc is going back and when I get it back I will create a new raid with them... but this time a raid1.

Thanks for your efforts, just wanted to update with the outcome.
