hi guys
just got one of these for repair and suspect typical issue with this drive.
5400.3 160gb from mac
firmware 3.cae
country is WU
i am gettig this error accompanied by clicking noise

suspected as much about to enter clean room to test, how do u inspect the inner platters, to is ok to inspect

All of those I have seen have been media damage.

Seagate momentus for Mac are tendence to head crash like all hddguru´s told´s u so on first i would check for residual of magnetic dust on filters and check Heads too.

Out of the 50 or so of these I've received in the last year, I'd say all but 4 of them had media damage. For some reason, these particular drives that were manufactured in China, are just complete and total crap.

well i opened the drive and as expected there is a very nice circular scratch going through the inner of the platter, i guess in this case no point going on or has anyone had success from these drives ?

I think due to slimness of Mac there is no protection for drive,
pressure from elbow, palm on thin cover causes headjamb and ring
around near centre on top surface.

Previously Mac used Hitachi now Seagate - Mac problem, but they
will not acknowledge.
