Hi,
I have a external firewire hard drive that doesn't mount on my MacBook Pro anymore.

it's a Lacie with 2 WD2500 enclosed inside. It makes a strange noise, like it starts and stops all the time, and the blue light is constantly blinking.

I tried to mount it in starting on windows ( installed with bootcamp ) and starting on ubuntu CD ( I managed to recover data from a USB disk this way. ) but this time it didn't work.

with testdisk the drives seem ok.

what could I do more on my own, before I bring it to a recovery company?

Thanks a lot
Vincent
ps: if you need more specific info about the hard drive or anything else, please let me know as I don't know a lot about this stuff.

Hi,

The start-click-stop is the typical problem with WD drives.
The drive have some bads in the SA area, or head/media problem.
Sorry, but i think there is nothing what you can do.
Seek for professional help.
Maybe you can ask pcimage user, he is close to you and i am sure, he can help.

What about the electronic parts ? the controller ?

Do the drives need these parts to work fine ?

Do they need to be enclosed in the same dual bay ?

Could it work to put the drive in a 3.5" USB IDE Hard Drive Case ?

thanks

Vincent
