I am intrigued, how do you manage to transplant platters with spacers with only your hands? Have you discovered a way to realign after moving them?

Regards,

It's possible but difficult! I have been testing this for some time now. But my success with re-aligning platters has only been 30%. Not something I would currently try on a clients drive.
I am sure some others have perfected the technique.

Interesting, I am assuming this only works on some drives? (Certain manufacturers?)

In my own testing I have found *certain* drives to be more resilient to shifts then others

I like others keep alignment by using cheap tools. I don't remove one platter at a time. I move all platters at once but using my hands. Thats what I meant.

Yes, that is true. For example I have had absolutley no luck with Hitachi drives.
I tested primarly with Samsung and Seagate since they have terminal access. I have not tested it with Maxtor or WD. I am sure that with the right HD testing equipment I could achieve better results. Personally I would not use this technique for platter transplant since tools and other easier solutions are out there.

Hi Nikola,

I can see you are going to have the same problems with the finger width as we are currently trying to overcome with P.Ex.

I can't see from your photo, but P.Ex is mounted on a sturdy worktop and is not hand-held; you can't really do precision work if you are holding the device - movement (placement, platter clamp, dampener clamp, lift) needs to be controlled by machinery.
You still have some way to go - but good luck!

The difference here between these two tools is about a decade I think

Seriously though nikola, when do you think tool will be finished? I hear good things about the rest of your tools, looking forward to hearing how this one develops.

The difference between these 2 tools is that one is real and will reach market, the other is penis enlargement propaganda.

Hi,

Can somebody please explain what they mean by "alignment".
No, I know about circumferential alignment - this is mostly not important!!

"Alignment" suggests some form of adjustment to a position or location,
can somebody please talk about what is to be adjusted to modify or correct
"alignment"
