Hi,

I'll explain that I would like to do. I have disks ST3400755SS with firmware NS25 (a Dell firmware property) and I bought exactly the same disks ST3400755SS directly from seagate with firmware 0003.

I would like to update Disks from firmware 0003 to firmware NS25.

I have a RS232 TTL Convertor.

Someone know the command to download the firmware from my NS25 Disk and to update the firmware my 0003 Disk with the NS25 firmware?

Thanks in advance

David

Why would you want to do that?

Because I have a Dell Perc 5/i and my 0003 Disks can not receive command from my raid controler.

I have exactly the same controler Dell Perc 5/i and NS25 Disks (Disks buy from Dell) and I have no error.

That why I would like to update the fimware of my 0003 disk to NS25 ;-) if it is possible of course.

Ask Dell for FW update for your Dell drives maybe they provide you newer version which you would be able to write on all drives
Update command is standard and you can get it from t10.org or use Seagate SeaTools utility for enterprise drives it has an update option as well

You said you have disks with NS25 which are clearly Dell. You need to ask FW for DELL DISKS like NS26 or so (if it exists)

If you cannot get FW update then it would be much difficult to update your 0003 disks. There is no free command to download FW from a disk, so you would need pro help and so far only few DR companies in the world can do such job for Seagate SAS drives

Yes I have Disks NS25 firmware that are from Dell but I bought other disks from Seagate with firmware 0003.

I asked dell how can I update my disks 0003 firmware to NS25. They said me that they have not this NS25 firmware (this firmware comes directly when you buy disks from Dell), that why I would like to get my NS25 firmware from my NS25 disks and after that update my 0003 disks with the NS25 firmware.

Please listen to Doomer, you cannot simply copy off the FW from your NS25 disks and "flash" the 0003 disks.

Are you an idiot or blind?
One more time
1. There is no easy way to read FW from a drive
2. You have Dell Seagate with NS25
3. You write email or call to Dell and ask them for FW update for your NS25 Dell drive. Maybe they have NS26 or NS27 FW update packages
4. If you get the FW from Dell use SeaTools to update your 0003 drives and your NS25 drives
5. If you cannot get FW update from Dell be ready to spend money for pro service

Really you should stump up the cash for real Dell drives.

IMHO you will have a problem trying to upgrade the code because Seagate implements a few security measures in the loader code that will not allow one customers code (HP) to be downloaded to another customers code (DELL). Sometimes you may get lucky but most times you will have error. To overide this option you need to understand how the cake is cooked :O) Or have special firmware that allows config changes. Both options are beyond this forum.

... but SOMEONE (ehm...) can do it for you .

Or call Dell service and pay for it.

Or buy Dell spare parts.

Or live with it

If you need help to override any model/family/version checks, meet me at Seagate's forums.

The procedure is quite straightforward. You just need to edit the options for the flash utility.

For example, here is the documentation for SeaFlash:
