So, yet another Seagate BSY post!

One of these died on me recently, and it's showing the symptoms of the BSY bug.
Worked just fine, but suddenly woun't show up in BIOS after a reboot.
It's spinning, and no funny noises are heard, just the normal ones.
I tried MHDD, but couldn't find the disk there either.

I checked its serial number, but Seagate says it shouldn't be affected.
The firmware is SD01 btw.

So I've read some on these forums, and come across the "Heath Robinson"-fix.

I've got a friend of a friend who's got access to an el-lab at the local university,
and which is experienced with the soldering-iron/building various "el-stuff".
So if I'm going through with this, he'll be helping me.

What I'd love is some expert opinion if those two guides are worth a shot?
Does it sound like something a regular guy like me can pull off with some soldering-help?
Or is it a shot in the dark and I'll probably damage the disk even more (aka; the guides are BS)?

If yes to the last question, what can I expect a professional from this forum to charge for this kind of fix?

Hey i've checked those guides before.

and they don't need any great soldering skills or something.. (ok provided that you are not a total nood)
If your thing is the BSY status problem, then this would fix it

Just one thing : BUSY drive can be the effect of multiple problems. If you are aware that you can brick your drive (kill it) then play with it. Don't expect professional help here if the internet stuff doesn't work for you (hope it will but without proper diagnose it's like seeing in the crystal ball).

This kind of question is what we call "DOMANDA RETORICA" where you already know the answer. Or it falls into the category of questions customers make when they come and say "I want this drive fixed but I make the price - I won't give you more than... " (the answer is : this is not the local fish market).
