This a pic of my drive after it has returned from the dr company.
is it possible to open the hard drive without taking the screw out of the seal?

mybe it turns nicly under the sticker i dont know, is it done like that?
it almost seems like they only panctured the seal.

I would say yes, it's been opened.

Not unusual for a DR company to open a drive to check for physical damage before powering a drive up.

don't mean to offend anyone. This is a lazy way to open the drives. I never do it this way :O) And it makes it a little awkward to put the lid back on.

I agree with guru, besides if you cut away stickers, especially on mobile drives,
you will quickly figure out NOT to do it this way.

Why? - replacing cover, I always centre plate with outer screws and then progressively
tighten all screws FINISHING with head screw - nice and LOOSE LAST.

Figure it out, it will increase your success rate.

On Seagates i never had problems opening and closing them like this.
WD is another story ; there i remove the stickers as well.

If you want the data back, send it to the original company you sent the drive to... They kow the exact condition prior to opening the top lid. Other places may take the drive but you may have to pay the non-refundable diagnostic fee.

the first company said, it not accessible and nothing can be done.
when i asked if they did anything they said they only opend the top lid.
my guess, they cant or wont do it. they post 96% sucess rate and charge max 500$.

i think they avoid problematic had drives.

you guys said to watch out from whoever says that

I suppose this is achievable if they are very selective about the jobs they accept. Taking into account the amount of cases where clients 'accidentally' zero drives, or attempt physical work themselves, or cases where platters are severely scratched or even shattered, overwritten data etc, 97% is a little hard to swallow.

But like I said, if they are 'selective' about the cases they accept, or if they do not include 'unrecoverable' cases, then i suppose it could be true.

I'd also be concerned if I sent a WD Caviar for recovery and received an N40P back!! The data protection commissioner wouldn't be too happy about that I bet

I think the video is pretty cool though, i'm sure they spent a fair bit of cash doing it.

Perhaps it is their policy to return data on N40P's.......it's a sure way to get repeat custom!
