Hello, I have a Hitachi HDP725050GLA360 500Gb hard drive that stopped working. I'm trying to find a pcb for it, but without much success. If anyone has a pcb, or knows of a place I might be able to find one I'd really appreciate it. Thanks

Stop working? What's wrong with your hard drive? If you are for sure it caused by the PCB, Did you try Ebay?

Stopped as in it was running fine, then quit, the system bios doesn't see it anymore nothing. The drive doesn't power on at all. I have looked on ebay, and i can't find one with the same pcb, I have seen a dozen or so with the same model number, but the pcb is different.

I've looked the board over and don't see anything wrong with it, so I'm really just guessing that it's the problem. The drive made no clicking or other odd noises it just stopped like the power was turned off. Before anyone asks yes I did check and make sure it was getting power, the sata cable, ect.

I'm not any kind of an expert on hard drives kernando so I'm not going to give you advice on reparing your drive. You may want to ask some of the others here though.

be careful, if it shorted out, the heads might be stuck on the platters, you might not want to chance it because if you keep pushing the outcome will not be pretty

Check the larger two black TVS components at D2 & D3, then should be open and not short.

no no, the owner didn't sad, the pc won't powerup when connected, or burned/smoked, and this model don't have fuse in the pcb.

The problem must be the NVRAM as usually or another but non-serious problem.
If the PC was normally shotdown, the heads must be in the right place, but if not, like bluescreen happened or freezed or similar, than the head stucking can be, but i don't think this have too much chance.

Anyway DON'T OPEN THE DRIVE if you want to get your data back without paying 2000$ or more for recovery.
In this case, the price can be much more cheaper until you opening it.

Regards,
Janos

Not ALWAYS true, I've come across cases where one of the TVS's have been triggered and prevented the drive from spinning up. No sign of burning or preventing the PC from starting.

It wouldn't "hurt" to check would it?

Very true,

I had exact same problem with a drive yesterday. Client opened disk so theres a lot of bad sectors but removing TVS got it working.

I'm not going to open the drive, I've been working with computers and other electronics for a number of years. One thing I know is I don't have the tools, or knowledge to open a hard drive, and put it back together without it being junk when I'm done. There is a local place here that says they can do data recovery, I'm going to check them out. However there isn't anything on the drive important, if I could make it run it would save me some time.

pcimage, HDD Spaz,

Are you guys talking about Hitachi? :)
Or any drive without fuse?

If the TVS shorted, there is 2(+1) case:
1a. have fuse, still good, and the PC will not power up, or will smoke.
1b, have fuse, fuse blown, the PC will start up, the drive not spinning.
2. have no fuse (like this one), TVS short: PC will NOT poweron, or will smoke definitely.

There is no other options, or if you have any, please post a picture from pcb!

Janos

Hello,

I have the exact drive with the same problem. Did you get your drive sorted out? I am at a total loss when it comes to this type of situation. Any response will be appreciated.

I had the same issue until I tested the large TVS and found a short.

I desoldered the faulty component and got my data back.
