Which hard drive is better Western Digital WD Caviar Green WD10EADS 1tb or Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST3100033AS firmware CC1H 1tb

I know the seagate is 7200rpm but the WD does not list that??????

I think they are both 32mb cache but it is not listed in the product info for the seagate so can anyone confirm?

One is listed as "Green"

They are both Sata 300

Which will generally last longer?

Which is overall better and why?

I don't like either of those drives. Personally, I prefer Samsung or Hitachi E7K1000 series.

Those are the two drives I can pick from. One will go in my computer and the other will be backup only.

I suppose it's like asking if you'd prefer Swine Flu or Ebola, I'd probably take Swine Flu.

both companies push the limits of hard disk technology. Sometimes they push the limits too much and produce below standard drives.. IMHO

read this and take note of "industry standards" LMAO

Seagate, the biggest hard drive manufacturer, has announced today that effective January 3, 2009, the company will be making some important changes to its limited warranty terms for selected drives. The warranty period for consumer electronics (Seagate Barracuda 7200 included), notebook (Momentus 7200 and Momentus 5400 included) and personal storage bare drives sold to Seagate Authorized Distributors will be changed from 5 years to 3 years. Seagate believes that the new warranty period and terms better reflect current industry standards

Anyway, it is always best to assume the worst and understand that at some time your drive will fail.. So always back up folkes! :D

I thought my WD and Seagate as well as the maxtor that failed all had 3 year warranties... alota good it would do anyway when you loose your data. My WD600 actually just died too but it has not been hooked up in years so who knows. I have only heard bad things about Hitachi drives and even their rating is pretty low on new egg.

Your car probably has a 3 year warranty too, chances are it will breakdown at some point during this period.

The Seagate hdd's had a 5 yr warranty, but this has been lowered, take that as a good indication of the quality. Like all consumer electronics, prices come down and functionality increases - something is fundamentally wrong in that equation.

The E7K1000 series of Hitachi's are pretty good, but like everything else, they are not perfect and will fail at some point.
