Had a drive in that had SA problems and a corrupted windows on this drive. Client did not care about programs and getting back his window directory so I recovered his data off the drive and gave it back. He was very satisified with all this. Then he went to reinstall his ITunes and found that the recovery folder I retrieved restored his ITunes. But in the restore process he is not able to access or get to his music he has purchased from the ITunes store. He is now calling me and telling me it is my fault he has lost all of his music and due to my recovery efforts for his data he can not make his ITunes work as before. He believe it is up to me becasue of the recovery to find a solution to this problem and make his ITunes work again.

I know there is a lot of thrid party software people out here that work with this software. I found his ITunes music folder in Documents under Music and saved this folder for him. He never made an offical back up of this program like I have read on internet so the reinstall process that they speak of does me no good what so ever.

Does anyone out here that uses this program and has run across this problem before know how to reinstall this music folder back to the drive so that he can access it again. I just know for purchased music he has to go to the Store panel and choose to autohorize this computer and his store purchased music should work again as long as he has not done this more than 5 times or on 5 different computers.

Any idea how to get around this problem and reinstall this folder I retrieved for him. Normally I would not worry to do this one but we are a small islands and a long time client of mine so I will see if I can offer some help to him in this. Thanks for any ideas and know that someone out here has run into this problem with their drive failing and how did you restore your music to your Itune account.

Here is a post that I found while searching the internet that discusses these issues. It is not an endorsement, especially if what it recommends violates any copyright statutes, so I am presenting it for info only. HAVING WORKED AT A SOFTWARE FIRM, I DO NOT CONDONE ANY ILLEGAL OR UNETHICAL ACTS IN REGARD TO INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY.

What WE recommend to clients who have recovery / authentication issues is to call Apple's Tech Support (e.g. AppleCare) and explain the situation in detail. They will usually allow the client to download another copy of the purchased & protected songs. Problem solved.

Thanks Jono-ats. I know for a fact this is the clients music. It is for a dance studio I have worked for for years. This music was purchased legally from Itunes store for their dance studio and it is a collection of music for over a 5 year period of time. If this was for any other person I would not of asked for this one at all. I even had them register their codes again with the Itune store. They entered their codes and they were legal and accepted on their system. If this does not work I will do as you suggest and have them contact the ITune store and see if they will give them back their purchases. Thanks for this information.

If they purchased the music from Itunes , all they have to do is
log back in to itunes and re-authorize the computer.
The problem is that with the re-install of windows, the drm was
probably lost.

I did this one with them. OK here is what I had to recovrey it was just a folder in C drive under documents and setting/my document/my music/folder inside was itunes. I recovered this folder. I could not get into their itune account and save it like they say you have to save it to CD so that you can reinstall this one. I did not think this was a problem. I think after reading all this that the way they reinstalled it by letting itunes do it for them might be my problem on this one. I know they copied all the folders into my documents and then re-downloaded itunes to their system. I was there and I could see the file structure on this one. I can see all their music they have on their system. But when you click on it to access it there is a message on this one and it takes you back to the store and it is like they have to purchase it again or some thing strange like this one. But even after they do this they still can not get to it. I am not sure if they were not suppose to let this program go to the file I recovered or not to set back up their program. That is my problem now. We went to the Store on the menu and on activate this computer we put in their account information and set it all up like you are suggesting on this one. But for some reason this still is not allowing the music to be accessed. So either there is a problem in their recreation of this account or in the file that was recovered from their broken drive. I had major SA damage and had to repair a lot of modules. I cloned the drive to find out there was major damage to the window system. So I could only enter into the directory and get back the data off this drive windows was corrupted also.

There has to be a way to take the save folder in itunes and get it to reinstall inside their itunes program and then activate their system as you are saying so they can access all their accounts. If not the only other way is to phone itunes or email them and explain this problem as suggested by Jono-ats on this one.

Unless you can somehow force the system to do another type of reinstall and recovery of the file folder I saved.

Yes it shows up. Then you try to access it and it says it is not located. After you click on locate and it take you to the saved folder I did and then you choose the itunes library on it and it says it is not in there. The folder you can see hold 19.5GGB of data in it

Open Itunes Click file/Add folder to Library.
then point to the itunes folder where you saved the files.
(I have a feeling that the library file doesn't point to the actual
music files)

OK advancing. I have done as you say. Now it is asking of me to install each song one by one when pointing to this one. I have downloaded to a HDD the complete file saved. I am not believeing it was letting ITunes search and reinstall the music that has caused this problem. I can find in their music a folder called music. Inside this folder there is all there music stored inside. But now that it has been loaded automatically by itunes it will not allow the commands you are suggesting to free them up unless I go and point to each song and load them one by one. I have maybe another idea on this one. Will keep you posted on my progress. I have the folder now and can test some ideas to get it back to normal. Thanks for all your help.

if it doesn't allow you to add the complete folder,
you might try importing the folder .

OK here is what I had to do to make this thing work again.

1. Delete the version 9.xx complete all traces of this version
2. Install in place of this version 7.0.2
3. During install not allow it to update, not allow it to find any music, not allow it to even be the default music player
4. On the back up I had done store it on another drive
5. On the documents go to music and I tunes
6. You can not copy the entire folder over you can only copy a few items in this over and especially the music folder. Do not copy the music folder only the contents of this one.
7. Now on Itunes file menu go to file and select to import a folder
8. Find you music folder the one that is stored in the itunes music along with all other folder and has in there igames and things like this - point to the folder
9. It will only import the folder and then create a play list
10. After this brings back in all the songs and releases them
11. Then go to the store and authorizes the computer with the name and password
12. This releases the hold on all purchased music
13. Now you can get to all your music stored in the back up file after you have to plug back in your ipod and do a software up date to ver 9.0xx

This is the only way I could get the files and folders to work again. I think when it was first made this was the software they used and for some reason it would not allow me to do any of this with the new software rev 9.xx I tried with ver 9.xx to go to files and import the music folder but considering they had let the software do this for them it would not import and when it did gave the same results on this one. Each time you wanted to hear a song it would say you had to locate the song on your HDD in order to play it.

Thanks for all the help and ideas on this one. I just took them all and could not make it work but after backing down a few software rev got it to work and all the dance studio music is back for them.
