i have a PC with two hard drives. a maxtor 200 GB IDE & 250 GB Samsung SP2504c SATA II with firmware VT100-41.now i have problem with sata hdd. when i conect this hard drive to my PC, computer hang on first screen about 60 seconds & after that samsung hard drive didn't detected.but when i disconnect it and go to bios then connect it and try to detect it,system detect it & show 136 GB capacity.then i reset computer & go to bios & system show the capacity 250 GB.now i can work with this hard drive in windows & all things are OK until i shutdown my computer. after that, i should do this works again.is there any way to correct problem?

Backup Any Data you have on that Samsung RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!!!

RMA the drive or check your SATA Port or Motherboard for any defect. It could be the hard drive itself.

AFTER YOU BACKUP the SAMSUNG, try different SATA Drive connected on that same SATA PORT and see how it goes. This should give you an idea if the MB or the drive is causing the problem.

Was the other motherboard a Gigabyte, too?

Is the Samsung set up as your boot drive?

Gigabyte has a feature called Xpress Recovery BIOS which steals a few MB from the top of the drive. It is used to store a backup of the BIOS. Some motherboards have a BIOS bug which causes drives with capacities in excess of 1TB to be incorrectly truncated. For example, a 1.5TB drive will be reduced to 500GB.

I wonder if the BIOS is responsible for your problems. The 136GB capacity looks very much like the 128GiB / 137GB limit imposed by 28-bit LBA.

no, the motherboard is Asus.the samsung didn't set as boot drive.
another thing is although drive capacity in motherboard is 136 but in windows it is 250 with no problem.
however i think the hard is dead & cannot be repaired.

I can't advise on the health or otherwise of your drive, but Windows would look in the partition table and/or boot sector to determine the size of a logical volume. Disk Management may tell a different story, though.
