I accidentally plugged in my laptop's adapter to my seagate external desk storage which has 19v. The original adapter is only 12 v=2A. The item is still under warranty but I'm afraid they will just pull out the item and replace it with new one. I even tried to plugged it in my computer using sata cable but my pc doesn't detect it anymore. I have lots of files there it's almost 1tb of important files. Please help me!

send it to Pro. and those seagate are really tricky if ur data are valuable

The usual result is a shorted 12V TVS diode, in which case there is a simple, zero-cost DIY fix. There is nothing tricky about it, except maybe in finding a way to get inside the enclosure.

would it cost me much like what data recovery services are offering? where I can get replacement for tvs diodes buy a new one with the same model?

Questions regarding cost will no doubt be answered via PM. However, a replacement board plus firmware transfer should cost around US$50, if your board supplier does it for you.

should I open now and void my warranty? do you think seagate will not know it? does varying hdd model matters when replacing diodes or do I need exact same model? should I wear gloves before opening it?

I got it working 2 ic has been replaced
