That issue is related to a FW problem.

Re: Samsung HM501II

It's a firmware issue, can be fixed by pro with PC3000 UDMA latest version.

Yep. Just did not mention that :)

does the PCB replacement is a solution ?
HDD is under warranty but I need to recover data

I'm a peaceful guy, won't beat anyone :)

@cinerus: PCB replacement is not an option for this case.

If your data is really valuable you should go to a pro. At least you can get a quote.

PCB will not help

Assuming it is what we think it is, repair should be reasonable price.

i can see firmware issue, ercoverable with pro tools

Re: Samsung HM501II

May 28th, 2013, 7:10

i managed to fix it by swamping another PCB with same ROM

Re: Samsung HM501II

May 29th, 2013, 2:52

Unlikely.

Re: Samsung HM501II

May 29th, 2013, 3:29

It's not always for FW problem according to my experience.

It's sometime for A-LIST corruption, can be fixed without PC3K.

Sometime it's PCB failure.

I still have 1 case without solution (Under experiment if there is still other issue involved)

Finally the pending case is also solved.

I have this similar problem on a Samsung HM501II drive.
But Drive can not get Ready status.

When i power up the drive starts spinning and is clicking for about 5 min, then stops clicking sound and spin down

Any way?
I attach log.
