So what ? Are you on top 10 now ? The day I will need your help I'll ask. I think that day cows will be laying eggs.

P.S. Horses do "perform" even in less than 2 min. , the fact that you didn't get an answer is just because I think you didn't deserve it. I have discussed it with people here other way. And do another thing : use ADD FOE, so you won't see my posts. I can do the same. Again, all your attempts to put people under a bad light have THE EXACTLY OPPOSITE EFFECTS.

This is boring. If I wanted to find people who get boners over multimeters, I'd google it.

A first year electronics tech doesn't need to discuss multimeters with anyone, let alone a guru.

I asked you a simple question to ascertain the capability of your Agilent. I had absolutely no expectation that anyone would fail such a simple task. You made a statement which I believed to be false, akin to the Internet "bullshit" that you so often rail against, and I wanted you yourself to test it.

It takes more than $10K of equipment to be a "guru". You need to understand the principles behind their use. For that you need to go to school. I learnt part of my trade from people who were much less academically qualified than myself. But I was their willing pupil and they were my gracious tutors. I thank them for their patience and understanding.

You and your colleagues need to come down from your high horses (or stallions) and be receptive to the complementary knowledge that people who you deem inferior to yourselves can provide.

Some of us are born intelligent, others not so intelligent, but all of us, including "gurus", are born ignorant.

Now you are harassing. I told you to add foe and ignore, I was doing the same. But you don't stop. This is what you expect : attention on yourself. But I won't play your game. Don't use my username to answer again or to post your personal considerations about my person. It's so simple : both should think and do as each other has never existed. Ok?
P.s. Many people here know exactly and directly what equipment I own - a lot more than 10k$. Ask them for confirmation if this makes you feel better or helps stopping this annoying discussion.

i was searching all hddguru. nothing. after googling around i found a nice article on tech support.
they recommend to take out the tvs diode, recovering, freezing etc.
just to be sure where is this tvs diode ?

Refer to the following photo clip:
http://www.users.on.net/~fzabkar/HDD/SP0411N_TVS.jpg

To test the diodes, use a digital multimeter on the 200 ohms range. The blob to the right of the zero ohm resistor is a mystery to me, but it may just be a tarnished copper pad, possibly set aside for a fuse.

These URLs should help you identify the components:

http://hddscan.com/doc/HDD_from_inside.html
http://www.users.on.net/~fzabkar/HDD/HDD_ICs.txt
http://www.users.on.net/~fzabkar/HDD/TVS_diodes.txt

If you have difficulty using your multimeter, one of us will help you.

hello fzabkar

thanks again for your reply.

the picture u sent doesn't clarify which is the TVS?

i believe the procedure mentioned on http://www.techsupportforum.com/hardwar ... 0411n.html
is risky. isn't it?

tks again for all of u there

Do you have a multimeter?

What procedure are you talking about? If you are referring to freezing, then that technique was claimed to free a stuck spindle. It has nothing to do with your problem. OTOH, if you are referring to removing a TVS diode, then that is OK provided that your power supply is good. Be aware that if your drive suffers an overvoltage in the absence of a protective diode, then more serious damage will result.
