Hallo,
My HDD is failing (recognized wrong in BIOS) and I have a very important data on it. Before I open it, I would like to load a new firmware. Does anybody know where I could find it?
Thanks!

New firmware wont help (i even believe there is no firmware update for WD).
What makes you think your harddisk is failing?

Most likely it's really a FW problem, but you have nothing to do with this.
Simple for a pro and almost IMPOSSIBLE for a DIY.

IF the data is really important then you must send it to the nearest pro.

Disk is still under waranty. In BIOS is recognized "something" ( it is not none, or hang, but blank space). Disk worked normally and after power loss, stoped working. Software recovery shows only errors. It could be problem with PCB or heads. The company which is working with HDD recovery suggested to find firmware, or the list of compatible PCB's, before we open it. Would be good to find exact specifications of this model - number of heads, etc.

What kind of recovery company has not its own pcb's? :s
They can easily find the number of heads if they have the proper equipment, even without opening it.

this infomation cannot be identified simply by looking at label or model numbers, and commercial shops/stores certainly will not be able to confirm this.

If a DR firm is unable to provide a suitable PCB, or give poor advice such as urging you to find your own firmware, I would assume this specific DR firm will not be able to help and I would advise an additional service provider.

A reputable firm will have a good stock of both PCBs and Firmware backups, will have methods of accessing and in some cases restoring damaged modules, and a reputable firm will NEVER advise you to find your own firmware, especially as this can be identified only by viewing the firmware with specialist tools, which if you had you may not have needed the DR company in the first place.

The one that has no inventory or data recovery experience.
