Hello Forum,
I can't figure out what's wrong with this drive, but I can't access the data area. Here's the details:
- 3.5" 250gb Sata 3.AHD firmware
- Using Seagate HD Doctor Drive becomes Ready and I can Load From Hard Drive
- model, serial, and firmware identified correctly, but LBA=10,000
- Read all firmware modules (twice), no problems
- Read RAM (twice), no problem
- Tried manually setting LBA to correct value, but it doesn't stick and keeps reverting to 10000 (tried many times).
- Trying to read any sector (i.e. sector 1) causes "Error"
- Over the course of the past night, I tried: Stuff Fix, Read-only Repair, Load App (from T and F), CE Log Repair, cleared Smart, cleared G-list. ALL completed with no errors, but problem still remains.
- Hooked up to Deepspar, it sees correct LBA, but once imaging begins, none of the data is readable (Abort error).
- Tried connecting to DataCompass, it can't Load Hard Drive (drives goes from VeryBusy to Off, in a loop).

- Strange note: even though I've reset smart many times now, I can still View SMART Attribute and it looks like it's pretty filled up.
- If I reset smart, then immediately check smart attributes, it gets stuck in VeryBusy.
- If I reset smart, power off/on, check smart attributes, it looks like it hasn't been cleared at all.

Any ideas? Head issue? Bad firmware (even though it tests okay)?

Seems more a fw problem than heads, but who knows? I would check in order: translator, security, take a look in MHDD (YES !) then do a head test one by one. P.s. Are you sure pcb is native?

Try a clear password.

Mind you, I've never trusted these "one button fixes" on SD

YOU GUYS ROCK! Clearing the password gave me back the correct LBA. But, strangely, the problem persists. If I try to view any sector on the drive it goes to "Very Busy" every time (previously it would go "Very Busy" then "Error"). Trying all the same stuff I already tried again, so far no luck.

Probably all it needed in the first place was a password reset.

I've tried these so called "one button fixes" on scrap working drives and they bugger up most of them!

Interesting that the SD equipment doesn't quickly notify you of a ATA password.

unfortunately, i still haven't been able to access the data area. just hooked up to mhdd for blackst's suggestion - just red Xs - says security "High, Off" - so I guess the password is gone. i think the most telling insight i've found trying to fix this is when regenerating translator i get "Missing Critical Parameter." anyone know what that means and/or what i can try in order to fix it?
