hi guys, need your help ! my WD 2TB mybook HDD is security protected by a single password (to access the drive in my comp, view its contents, and continue to add more data). the password box comes up every time you plug into your comp.

since this afternoon ive been locked out, i knew my password but entered it incorrectly four times and only just found out i had the numlock turned on, on my laptop. GREAT!!!!. now the WDsmartware software wont let me access my files

any ideas of how to get access again please much appreciated......

Well, I'm still not 100% what kind of encryption does it use, but I'm sure you'll need help from a pro to do it.

Other option is try to contact WD in order to check if they have any solution for it.

My understanding is the WD SmartWare loads from a small partition on the drive (via autorun)
and allows the user to input the password that is used to access (encryt/unencrypt) the data on the rest of the drive.
I would have thought the software would merely lock out for a period of time if the incorrcet password is entered too many times
Henec it might accept it later today or tomorrow

There have some been some other threads on here about Smartware and the Initio chip that does the encryption
