Hello gurus,

I have been struggling with this problem for a while now, I tried some forums but nobody seems to know what's
going on. I hope some guru here can help me! I have a system with the following setup:

AsRock K7vt4a pro
AMD Athlon XP 3000+
2x1GB PC3200 DDR1 (Running at 2700)
Eminent PCI Sata controller
Samsung 2TB Spinpoint ECO Green (HD204UI)
Windows Server 2003 (Fully updated)

I have hooked up the Samsung 2TB disk and another 1TB Seagate disk to the sata controller. Now when doing
benchmarks I get the following results:


Seagate 1TB


Samsung 2TB

Since I'm using a SATA2 HDD on a SATA1 controller (through PCI) I wasn't hoping for breakneck speeds, but this
is crazy. I'm struggling to figure out why the read speed is so slow: I'm not even getting 4 MB/s. At first I
thought the Samsung disk was misaligned, but that can nowhere near explain the slow speed.

Does anyone have a clue what might be causing this? I have checked:
- The V-Raid software that comes with the controller shows both drives are running DMA mode
- I tried the controller+2TB HDD in a different computer (Win7), where I reached 80+ MB/s, both reading and writing

So I'm starting to think its an issues with Win2003...

Download MHDD and test your HDD from there. it is here on the forum. Try it and see what you find out.

Are you running the drive in SATA II mode? There is usually a jumper you can put on to switch modes on the drive. If you are running the drive in SATA II mode on a SATA I Motherboard this may be the problem.
