I know these drives can be a pain to work with so before I get into it, I'm going to tell you what I have and have not done.

My customer brought it to me and said she needs her quickbooks off it and some other misc stuff off it.

I plugged it in and could see the directory structure but from what I recall, these drives encrypt all your data.

psychically the drive is fine, I just need to get the data off.

I'm thinking if I plug install the software on my tower it will back up my hd right over her data. So the question is how do I get her data off the drive w/o the original computer?

Dave

Not sure if it will let you read it (if it's encrypted), but connecting through a Write Blocker will prevent writing anything to the drive (avoiding an over-write). I use one made by Tableau. It is expensive though unless you need one frequently.

The customer told me there is no password, but it still appears to be encrypted looking at it from windows. I can see it becoming encrypted if they used the software to back it up but I believe the encryption is done from a chip in the enclosure, which I have and is working properly. Basically you can't take the HD out and read it w/o the enclosure. (correct me if I'm wrong).

Any ideas or what other info do you need from me regarding this project?

So what is preventing you from copying the drive and/or data?

What makes you think this?

The encryption will encrypt everything including partition information, boot sectors and data. Effectively if the data was encrypted you would not see the folders/files or even the partition.

You are offering a data recovery service with even the slightest idea of how this HDD works?? :o

If you can see the data, simply recover it. Simple. :D
