Re-read & follow my post.
Your inputting a WD master password ie the WDCWDC bit without the ""

If you cant do this then you need to seek a pro.

It might be called AHCI or Enhanced in BIOS.
You would need to change it to Compatible

Thanks mate but my BIOS have no option to change AHCI at all...But as far as I know that AHCI mode need to be set to IDE in order to MHDD recognise sata drives, I will try to pop in into my friends computer. Cheers, Dan

Compatible is the same as setting it to IDE

I have WD5000AVDS and I have a problem with master password. I have tried unlocking with WDCWDC... and others similar.
I have tried using MHDD with two scripts for WD and WD Marvel. HDD was pluged either on SATA and SATA-IDE adapter. I have tested MHDD with scripts on three different PCs (gigabyte-k8ne, MSI-P45Neo and some old ECS-k7vta3).
I have successfuly test this one script and gets two .bin file.
Code:
; skriptas WDC sata rom  read
;
reset
waitnbsy
regs = $45 $0b $00 $44 $57 $a0 $80
waitnbsy
regs = $d6 $01 $be $4f $c2 $a0 $b0
waitnbsy
checkdrq
sectorsfrom = rom128.bin
regs = $d5 $80 $bf $4f $c2 $a0 $b0
waitnbsy
checkdrq
sectorsto = 2rom0.bin
regs = $d5 $80 $bf $4f $c2 $a0 $b0
waitnbsy
checkdrq
sectorsto = 2rom1.bin
; end

konfigūracijos sektorius rom128.bin 512 byte pirmieji 16 likusieji  00  0x 0000 24 00 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 02 00 00 00 00 00

but with these two scripts i have an error

I don't see any option to edit my previous post.

I pluged HDD WD5000AVDS-63U7B1 (FW: 01.00A01) by SATA-IDE adapter to IDE1 as primary channel.

I'm not a 'data thief', I've bought this HDD about two weeks ago on http://www.allegro.pl (something like ebay). The HDD is from some PVR (Cyfra+). I didn't supposed that I would have a problem with using this HDD with PC. I ask seller about password and he answered that he never set password and this HDD is from Pace PVR HD HDS7241/91CD. I can return this drive and get my money back but i would prefer to keep it because it was cheaper than others 500GB drives, thats the reason I choose it. Like I said I bought it about two weeks ago so I don't have much time to send it back. And before I will do it I want to try every free possibilities to unlock it.
So far I tried unlock it with MHDD, ATAPWD, HDDErase using many passwords like combinations of WDC, wdc, nbox, TEAMASSEBLY, h2oinsyde.
I think that i made everything right to get password (script, cs.bin 512bytes by HEX editor, using MHDD4.5, plug disk by IDE) but i don't have results, just errors every time I try.

Could you explain to me what is REGS = $57 $44 $43 $00 $00 $A0 $8A for?
I think that $57 is for W, $44 = D and $43 = C so it is for finding specific place on disk.
But in second script we have REGS = $45 $0B $00 $44 $57 $A0 $80, why it's so different?
It' some kind of offset?
What it is for 'sectorsfrom = cs.bin' ? Why it is 0x000 08 00 01 00 02 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ?
Why we have repeated twice the same commands in script and results save to different files?
Code:
regs = $d5 $01 $bf $4f $c2 $a0 $b0
waitnbsy
checkdrq
sectorsto = 21.bin

regs = $d5 $01 $bf $4f $c2 $a0 $b0
waitnbsy
checkdrq
sectorsto = 22.bin

Where should I look for password? Is it elsewhere in my WD5000AVDS?
Why do i get an error message?

Please help me a little. I promise i will not ask to decode my pass like others do ;-) I think I can do that last thing by myself if I only get this script to work.
And please don't leave me with advice to use HDDUnlock because it cost about 20% of my monthly earnings and it's more than I spent on this HDD :-/ Yep I'm from Poland.

Success, I finally did it! :-)
The third version of ZU worked for me (zu.betta.050911), almost gave up. It was a nice surprise to see "UNLOCK DONE".
MHDD shows that the password is off. Then I had a problem with formating drive in Windows disk management and other partition tools but MHDD coped with this (I've used commands CLRMBR and FDISK) and now i can use WD5000AVDS in my PC :-)

Thanks for this thread. I still wonder what was the default password used by this PVR because WDC.. didn't worked.

Have a nice day everyone :-)

Well done mate. I have been watching your posts closely but as I have no experience in this sort of situation I kept quiet. Just a quickie for you, is ZU simillar to MHDD? I mean do I lauch it in the same way and run scripts? Cheers, Dan

Sorry but the way your thinking wont work as that is for a hard drive password set in BIOS.
Im assuming you set the password via wd smartware software. Correct me if i am wrong.
If so then there is no free way to unlock your drive & keep your data. Unless you remember your password.
There are a few members here that can unlock a smartware password for a price and is safe to the data stored. Otherwise your other option is to format the drive, lose the data & move on.

Hello

This is the result of script 'dump'
Still, I don't see what the password can be ? Tried this on a locked WD2500JS.

Both of these symptoms show that the current problem with the drive is not (or not only) an ATA password being set. If you need the data from this drive, then IMHO you'll likely have to send the drive to a suitably-experienced professional for accurate diagnosis and recovery.

Hello Gurus, I am stumped and having the same problem as quoted below. The drive is a WD1000BEVS that was in a Gateway laptop that has died, so I have the drive hooked up to another PC (via SATA cable, set to IDE compatibility mode). Password was set at BIOS level and I already knew the password ("debbie55"), but I ran the MHDD script anyways just to confirm, and what what little knowledge I have from reading this thread, it looks like that's right (except it's padded with 00's). MHDD/HDAT2/Victoria show the security level as "High". I want to avoid a "destructive unlock" since I actually need the data on this drive. The master password revision code is FFFEh.

I've tried converting to decimal and then holding alt-gr and typing it out, and it does type out the password, but the unlocks still fails. If there is another way of entering the PW or sending the PW to the drive (Victoria for Windows?) I am unsure how to do it and would appreciate any help. It looks like the user 'subspace3' got the same problem resolved but did not post how :/ I know I'm probably missing something obvious...

Attached is my 22.bin

Hi all,

I really hate to do this but wondering if someone could pm or post on here what I need to know.

Basically found an oldish laptop in my work which may have important data on it. Boss wants me to look anyway and thinks the hdd was locked by the last IT guy who left a while ago. This laptop is dead but putting it into mine I've managed to run MHDD and the dump script to get the 22.bin file. (See below)
Now I'm thinking the user password is 02 0A 05 08 1F 26 and the master
04 24 16 23 09 15 07 24 is this correct? Basically looking for the 01 07 00 and taking all the hex values up to when the 00 's start and then taking the other values after this until the 00's start again as the master password, is this correct?

If so how do I get these into passwords I can enter into MHDD to unlock the drive? I've tried converting to decimal and selecting alt gr when typing each 3 digit part but nothing types in. Also tried an hex to ASCII and tried those values after dispwd command also. No joy. Also converted the hex to keyboard scan codes and used them In MHDD and Victoria with still no success?

Any body know what I'm doing wrong? I tried saving the HEX selections using ultraedit and then selecting those files in victoria security manager to unlock the hard drive but it doesn't seem to send the anything from the file.

Used this guide (translate.google.com/translate?js=n&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&layout=2&eotf=1&sl=auto&tl=en&u=http://elettrofreak.blogspot.com/2011/02/estrarre-le-password-ata-da-un-hard.html)
