Hi experts. Just wondering what the closest compatible donor for head swap on WD10EADS-00L5B1, DANNNT2MBN, Kermit series drives. They are so hard to come by.

Really more so for my training. Part of my task is that i've been given a handful of drives by my instructor and i'm there to get it to an operable state. I do have access to to the lab & tools.

Can someone enlighten me about "fixing up DAC values" on the heads preamp else in some donor heads you will damage it if you leave it on for too long without adjustment". Preamp will start to emit high pitch sound which indicates a damaged preamp. My brain just doze off track. Does this make sense?

yep. got that info already. just been reading around here seeing people being able to use parts that doesn't follow that rule. I guess either people are that secretive or nobody have had to dig into it. Time to get into more trouble.. ahh the pain of learning. Lets ruin more drive and see. I just hope my instructor doesn't dig into these forums.

Are all the drives new or used but in good working condition?

One thing that seems secretive or omitted on purpose on your end is why your instructor (suppose data recovery instructor) does not explain what is/not compatible so that things do not get ruined?!?

Kermit are ok. Many are compatible among each other. However though they are compatible on paper, there is compatibility issues with heads.

DCM is not extremely important.

ah yes thats a good query.
instructor wants to know our base knowledge to get an understanding of where we are at. Its actually part of a course i've been assigned to do. Forensics. Only 4 of us. So you can say i'm a trainee.

Hi, then you have nothing to loose. Let insructor do his/her job based on accurate evaluation.

Wondering what his base knowledge is?!? Why? Because this is a very "advanced task/question to answer" to expect of somebody who is just a trainee

instructor aint available for this task. you could say this is our homework.

nothing to loose except for a head stack. Just averaged microjog was able to access SA. Could't access filesystem. Each attempt it does a hard reset. Unfortunately after leaving it for 20mins powered accidentally (went for lunch), classic , now i can hear high pitched noise and drive is now clicking . i assume preamp is dead. As we've been warned.

Are you experimenting on New or Damaged drives? If old drives, you will most likely loose more head stacks if don't bother looking at surface damage. Check all platters under microscope for debri, scratches, etc. You can kill heads pretty quickly if surface has physical damage. High pitched noise to me indicates an overheated preamp. Don't think there's anything related to the dac tables you are referring to if you are say SA was accessible after a head change but you left it 20mins then heads died.
