Hi guys,

I need your help as I has got a problem with the hard drive. Few months ago the hard drive was working fine when I was working on it to get the partition table to restore as it has been corrupted due to raw format. When I ran the test disk, it took me ages to complete the method to restore the partition but I doesn't realised that the hard drive started to stop working when the recovery program did not complete the process to recover the partition.

I have had a look at the PCB board to find out why the hard drive won't spin. I suspected that the spindle motor wiring on the PCB to engaged with the motor axis to allows the platters to spins, is burnt.

Here's the picture:

I would like to get advice how I can measure the PCB board using with the digtal multimeter.

Can you please tell me how I can measure the PCB board using with digital multimeter to find out whether if the spindle motor wiring or the PCB board is dead??

Any advice?

Can you tell us if your drive spins up at all?
If it does not, simply replace PCB with compatible PCB.
I should have this PCB in stock if you need it. Just provide a picture of the front label.

99.9% PCB at fault, not motor.

thanks for your quick reply. How do you know that the PCB is fault?

When I took measurement on the PCB used with the multimeter, there are no resitance at all.

Just because I have refurbished several thousands of that model drives and have not seen many with failed motors.

Almost certainly will have one of these, have at least 1000 of these old Maxtor drives :-)

Email me Monday to remind me, and one is yours for £20 all in delivered!

Obviously can't guarantee it will fix your drive, but worth a shot!

You have been offered a replacement PCB from a reputable member who is closer to you, and it is offered at a bargain price, and you still want to get a price on it from USA, where I am sure you would have to cover international shipping costs? :?:

Yeah but I need to know if the PCB would work from a different model but come with a same code like this:

Code: NAR61HA0
Four chartcher: KMBA
Model: 6E040L0
PCB number: 294932005

Here is my PCB:

Code: NAR61HA0
Four chartcher: KMGA
Model: 6K040L0
PCB number: 040122600

If I get a PCB that come with a same code but come with a different model, would it work?

I need to know, because i have found cheap PCB which it would cost me £9 for replacement.

I'd hope that it will work as long I have get the same code as my original drive.

Hi there,

Would you mind telling me the hard drive brand and model shown in the picture? I'm using the same motor for a school project and I need more information about the BLDC motor (e.g. RPM, current, volts, etc).

Thanks in advance, and best regards!

The following datasheet for an L7250 motor controller might be of use to you:
http://pdf.datasheetcatalog.com/datashe ... Xyuswx.pdf

It should help you understand how these motors work.

You might find something here as well:
